MyEasyLotto browser extension is an application by Mindspark, a company known for releasing products that fall into the “potentially unwanted” category. The extension has some useful features but it also, unfortunately, earns the label of a browser hijacker for unnecessarily replacing the new tab page, tracking user data, and aggressively pushing certain search engines (like hp.myway.com).

The extension isn’t very malicious but it can hurt your browsing experience. Removing it is the only way to undo any of the changes that it makes, luckily, there are many other, better browser add-ons and websites. Just research them before installing to avoid other browser hijackers.
Problems with MyEasyLotto
There are a few problems with MyEasyLotto:
- MyEasyLotto hijacks the browser in intrusive ways to earn money from advertising to the user. This negatively affects their browsing experience.
- It uses bad ads to promote itself. Bad ads are correlated with dangerous websites and adware infections, so people who were exposed to MyEasyLotto ads are at risk of already being infected with other malware.
- MyEasyLotto sometimes bundles other, similar browser extensions during its installation. Bundling often results in unintentional installation and that is problematic.
How MyEasyLotto affects the browser
This extension is a new tab virus, a type of little program that replaces the home page, default search engine of the program in order to drive your traffic to partner websites.
Some people also experience seeing pop-up ads or unexpected, out-of-place banners on some websites, so MyEasyLotto can also be considered adware. The main way it delivers ads is by injecting them into the search results of MyWay, which is a search engine that uses Google’s results and “improves” them with some promoted content. To improve the ad targeting, it helps that MyEasyLotto can collect data about the user’s browsing history, search queries, locations, and some other data, and share it with advertisers.
Because of its developer’s poor reputation, making unnecessary changes to browser settings, and displaying ads, MyEasyLotto is found to be suspicious by most antivirus programs tested by VirusTotal. This shouldn’t be dismissed lightly.
However, not everything about MyEasyLotto is bad. It finds the results of the most famous lotteries and displays them in the new tab page, which does fit its description in its promotional material. The function could more easily be achieved with a pop-up panel rather than by hijacking the home page, though.
Advertisements for the extension
While MyEasyLotto is promoted by normal ads, it also uses notification spammers and redirection malware. Spend any time with your web browser being attacked by adware and you will quickly run into a few browser hijackers. A lot of sites which incorporate downloading files in some way also feature bad ads. Often, people are redirected to websites like MyEasyLotto’s page and at least a few careless people accidentally install this extension thanks to the giant, bright, vague “Continue” button.
MyEasyLotto is promoted by sites like install.notify-service.com, so it’s possible that your browser was already hijacked prior to the Lotto extension. An adware virus that’s infecting your computer works in a similar way to it but can affect all of your browsers.
Your computer might be clean and the websites that you frequent could be the ones infected. Aggressive, malicious ads aren’t always consented to by the sites that host them. In that case, you can only inform the site owner and hope that they will fix it.
How MyEasyLotto is installed
Ads are one way that MyEasyLotto is installed. The way its page is designed makes it easy for some to install it by accident or without enough information about what it does. A lot of users of various browser extensions say that they did not expect the plugin to hijack their home page.
One unfortunate thing that MyEasyLotto dies us bundle other extensions, such as Ask, TelevisionFanatic, or EasyPdfCombine. This is done by chaining multiple installations together. The user still has to click the button to install each add-on, but people who are unfamiliar with extensions might not notice anything suspicious.
MyEasyLotto can also be installed completely in the background, bundled with unrelated programs. People who download programs from freeware sites should be familiar with bundling — it’s when a program’s installer includes “optional offers”, which often end up with you accidentally installing some unfamiliar piece of software. This is very unethical because people end up installing programs that they did not agree to.
How to remove MyEasyLotto
If you want to remove the extension, you might need to perform a few steps:
- Manually remove MyEasyLotto from your browser, as well as other browser hijackers.
- Scan your device and, if needed, remove suspicious programs.
- Improve your device security and browsing habits moving forward so that infections don’t happen repeatedly
Not everyone who has MyEasyLotto has potentially unwanted programs installed, but it’s worth checking. Otherwise, you might end up removing the hijackers only for them to return a few days later.
Scan your device with Spyhunter (Windows), Combo-Cleaner (Mac OS), Malwarebytes, or another program that can detect viruses and PUPs.
Moving forward, it’s important to be a bit more careful when browsing sites that show aggressive ads. Whenever you install a free program downloaded from an unreliable site, review your installed programs to check for unfamiliar additions. Finally, regularly scan your computer with an up-to-date antivirus tool.
