MyOfficeX Search is a Chrome browser extension that changes your search engine settings to use Yahoo, and that’s it. Actually, services.myofficex-svc.org is the real name of the search engine that MyOfficeX Search uses. And though MyOfficeX Search claims to give you free online access to the Office suite by Microsoft, it offers no unique features, such as cloud software.

MyOfficeX Search features
Microsoft is one company that offers cloud Office access, though you need an account. And since MyOfficeX Search simply opens Microsoft’s websites, you still need an account – no free cloud Office suite here. It’s as if MyOfficeX Search is pretending to offer something to users, but not even trying to be actually valuable.
Besides, there do exist free alternatives to Office that recognize files created by Microsoft Office. They can be downloaded and used without adware infecting your computer and your browser and they can run on multiple operating systems.
MyOfficeX Search is a search hijacker:

Issues with MyOfficeX Search | Reads your browsing history;
Forces Yahoo to return web search results; Offers no useful functionality |
Remove MyOfficeX Search | Uninstall the extension;

We can tell that MyOfficeX Search is adware by looking at how it behaves:
- Set its own search provider as the search engine.
- Does not actually provide web search results, just tasks Yahoo with that.
- Reads your browsing history.
- Is made by Tightrope Interactive, a company already responsible for multiple browser hijackers (FileConvertor, Getofficex.org, MyMapsTab).
These features are very common among adware extensions. After all, their and MyOfficeX Search’s goal is to make money. Its access to your browsing history and search engine allows it to see what you search for (normally, search is encrypted and what you search for is hidden), and this data can help with targeted ads. And that’s why many search hijackers are released by advertising companies – private data is valuable for advertisers, and browser extensions are in the perfect position to capture it.
How MyOfficeX Search gets installed
Despite being so useless, MyOfficeX Search is installed by thousands of people. Not one of them has reviewed and rated this add-on, so we don’t know what they think about it. This lack of reviews might mean that a lot of those who installed MyOfficeX Search did it by accident and might not be aware of why their search provider has suddenly turned into Yahoo.com.
One possible explanation for why MyOfficeX Search might get installed by accident is that it’s bundled with other software. For example, you might download a free program from a download site and install it, only to later find unrelated software present on your computer. The main program is a bundler and its optional offers (the programs that are included with it) are usually installed by default. This is problematic because the other software might be completely unwanted, like MyOfficeX Search is.
Search and ads also help people discover MyOfficeX Search. Usually, they’re looking to download free Office programs, like Word or Powerpoint. MyOfficeX Search’s installation page might make it look like it offers exactly what those people want, but really, it’s just acting like an unnecessary middle man between you and Microsoft’s official channels.
How to remove MyOfficeX Search
All in all, MyOfficeX Search is no malware, but it’s still an unhelpful add-on to the browser that attaches itself to your browser like a leech. It’s bad for privacy and it doesn’t offer anything that you couldn’t achieve with bookmarks. It can be uninstalled normally, by going to Chrome extension settings (type “chrome://extensions” in the address bar).
If you are seeing pop-ups in your browser from MyOfficeX Search and they’re annoying you, type “chrome://settings/content/notifications” in the address bar and block notifications from MyOfficeX Search there.
If you suspect that MyOfficeX Search was installed by another program that you downloaded, if you want to check if you have any malware, or just to be careful, scan your computer with a tool like SpyHunter for PC, Combo Cleaner for Mac, or another program that you trust.
