When MyVedicTab is installed, it takes over your browser’s home page and new tab page. Online, it is presented as a useful add-on to your browser, but it’s more of a search hijacker meant to inflate the traffic to Myway.com and Ask.com. For people who want to get more resources on Hinduism, MyVedicTab is mostly useless. There are safer and less intrusive alternatives.

Problems with MyVedicTab
Useless browser extension
MyVedicTab is a browser extension released by MyWay. As a browser extension, it’s supposed to add some features to a web browser. It’s advertised as helping users access resources on Hinduism.
When MyVedicTab is installed, it replaces your browser’s home page with its own. This new page has a few links to other websites that deal with Hinduism. And… that’s it for the “Vedic” part of MyVedicTab.
For a browser extension, it is remarkably useless. Do you know how else you can quickly access useful links in your browser? By using bookmarks. A feature present in all major browsers by default, no extensions needed.
The new tab page that MyVedicTab takes over has other issues, as well. First, it does not reflect your frequently visited sites. Second, the search box in the middle of the page only goes to MyWay.com and not any other site.
It seems to me like MyVedicTab doesn’t add features to a web browser. Rather, it takes them away.
Search hijacker
In reality, MyVedicTab’s main purpose is to get more people to use the Myway.com search engine. That way, it can make money from advertising in the search engine results.
That’s why MyWay’s many browser extensions on so many diverse topics all work the same way – take over your home page and have a search box in the middle that leads to Myway.com.
Other hijackers by MyWay include InboxNow, ConvertDocsOnline, 100sofRecipes, etc. Other religion-themed extensions include KnowTheBible, MyGuidetoIslam, and Daily Bible Guide. They also work the same way that MyVedicTab does: a few links to third-party sites, and a search box in the middle of the hijacked new tab page.
How MyVedicTab gets installed
MyVedicTab is advertised online.
- One type of ad I often see is the “Start”/”Continue”/”Start Now” button that’s present on many file download sites. These button-looking ads are easy to mistake for real download buttons.
- Another type I often see is a search engine ad. Search engines like Topsearch.co (which is related to Ask, which is related to MyWay) often show ads for MyVedicTab and other hijackers. The ads say “Download” and “Install”. They appear when you search for popular software unrelated to the advertised hijackers. You can imagine how confusing such an ad would be.
- It’s also possible that MyVedicTab is advertised in some freeware installers as an optional offer.
All these ways could result in some accidental installations – people agreeing to get MyVedicTab because of a misunderstanding.
During my MyVedicTab installation, I was offered to install Search Extension by Ask. This is also an example of a misleading ad. It has what looks like a partially-filled loading bar, as well as a “Continue” button. Even just based on its reviews, I’m pretty sure some people installed the Ask extension through some kind of a misunderstanding.
How to remove MyVedicTab
It’s advisable to uninstall MyVedicTab, Search Extension by Ask, and any other hijackers.
Use anti-malware programs like Combo Cleaner for macOS, Spyhunter for Windows, and others to recognize malicious add-ons and other infections on your computer. Review your add-ons yourself, too.
The instructions for removing extensions can be found below. In case you can’t remove some of them because your browser is “managed by an organization”, refer to this article.
Use caution when installing free programs. Don’t let optional offers sneak in.
Be careful when clicking on ads. Question the site you’re on every step of the way. Don’t be afraid of quitting in the middle of the installation if something seems suspicious to you.
