NavFast is a potentially unwanted browser extension. It is promoted by monetized file download links.
NavFast doesn’t offer valuable or unique features, in fact, it doesn’t really add anything to web browsers. In addition, it gets access to a lot of user data, which could be bad for privacy. But despite that, users keep installing it.

What is NavFast?
NavFast is a search extension
NavFast is a browser add-on. It gets installed on your browser and allows you to quickly jump to any search engine.
Despite NavFast’s description, it does not offer useful features. In fact, it duplicates the functionality of Chrome browsers, where you type in the address of a search engine before your query to use that search engine – Tab to Search.
For example, if you type “Youtube.com puppies” into your address bar, Google Chrome opens Youtube.com with the results for “puppies”.
NavFast also allows you to select a favorite search engine. It then redirects search queries to that search engine by default.
Again, this is something that you can already do in your browser settings: open your browser’s main menu, click Settings, find the Search engine section, and select your preferred search engine.
It is advertised with download links
NavFast’s home page does not promote the extension and does not link to its Chrome Web Store page. There’s almost no mention of the NavFast extension online at the time of writing. And yet, the add-on apparently has more than 200,000 users. How do people even find out about this extension?
They don’t really. I suspect that many of the people who installed NavFast did it unintentionally. They might have encountered NavFast while trying to download some files from the internet. monetized download links lead to ad pages by sites like Linkvertise. Sometimes, these monetized download links require that you subscribe to notifications or install browser extensions.
NavFast makes no obviously visible changes to the browser, so it’s easy to overlook. Until your web search starts getting hijacked.
Ads and privacy
While I didn’t experience unexpected behavior while using NavFast, I only tried it for a minute or so. The reviews online indicate that NavFast injects ads and forces redirects to unwanted sites, like a browser hijacker.
If you installed a browser hijacker, you might have noticed more ads and redirects during your web browsing:
- Searching the web becomes frustrating as the search results are delivered on unexpected sites.
- Web pages show more ads than you’re used to.
NavFast’s privacy policy swears that your data isn’t logged or shared with anyone. But at the same time, the extension still gets access to “read and change all your data on the websites that you visit”. This is far too much for the functionality that NavFast promises. Permission to read your browsing history should be good enough.
