How Net01.biz works

Shady ads by Net01.biz

Net01.biz is a website. Its main purpose is to send notifications to people’s browsers. Those notifications are used by various advertisers to promote their products. Net01.biz makes money from this.

There are some problems with this. Net01.biz doesn’t seem to have very good advertising standards, so advertisers who’ve been rejected by other advertising networks flock to Net01.biz and sites like it. As a result, a significant portion of Net01.biz’s ads is for potentially unwanted sites:

  • scareware ads that lead to useless but expensive programs,
  • other adware sites (Thewowfeed.com, Toapodazoay.com, Hopsigna.com, etc.),
  • browser hijackers, search redirects, and adware extensions pretending to be utility add-ons,
  • fake lotteries and sweepstakes that lead to phishing sites and to subscription scams,
  • unregulated health supplements, diet pills, male enhancement pills, etc.

And worse, some of these ads are deliberately designed to look like notifications from trusted sites, such as social media websites. So, you might not even know where the ad leads to. And sure, this is all against Chrome policies, but as soon as one malicious site is caught, it gets replaced by another.

Getting notification permissions

Net01.biz is advertised on various websites. It appears when you’re trying to download a file, watch a movie, or just click randomly on a site. Then, Net01.biz says:

Press Allow to verify, that you are not a robot

Net01.biz is lying. Those who do click allow might not realize that they’re allowing Net01.biz to show pop-ups on their screens.

Block notifications

Net01.biz uses browser notifications to display its pop-up ads. As notifications only work when your browser allows them, all you need to do to stop the Net01.biz spam is to go into your browser settings, find the Notifications section, find Net01.biz, and tell your browser to block notifications from it.

  • Chrome – type “chrome://settings/content/notifications” in the address box.
  • Safari – in the Safari menu, choose Preferences, Websites, Notifications.
  • Edge (Chromium) – type “edge://settings/content/notifications” in the address box.
  • Firefox – open Settings, Privacy & Security, scroll down to Permissions, and click on Settings next to Notifications.

Net01.biz should be in a list called Allow or have the status Allow. Click the button to Net01.biz’s right and you should get a drop-down menu where you can choose Block.  You can also choose the Remove option. The difference is that if Net01.biz’s notifications are blocked, it can’t ask you to allow them again.

Check your Allow entries for other unwanted websites. Block them, too, if you don’t know them or don’t want to hear from them. You can always reverse this, so don’t worry about making mistakes.
