NewNoteCenter adds sticky notes functionality to your browser’s new tab page. It also hijacks your new tab, logs your browsing data, and tries to make you install more malware. On top of that, NewNoteCenter’s sticky notes are not even that good. It’s really better to remove NewNoteCenter before it can cause any problems.

NewNoteCenter is about showing ads
Advertisements and tracking
NewNoteCenter is a browser extension. It can be installed on your browser, getting some access to and power over it. Once installed, here are the things that NewNoteCenter can do:
- read and change your data on Myway.com and Ask.com (this includes your search queries),
- change your new tab page (the default browser page),
- read your browsing history,
- show notifications on your screen,
- manage your extensions.
In theory, NewNoteCenter is meant to help you make lists and take notes in your web browser. It really shouldn’t need that many permissions… until you remember that NewNoteCenter is a commercial product that exists to sell ads.
For example, NewNoteCenter reads your browsing history, which is used to show you interest-based ads. Notifications enable NewNoteCenter to show those ads on your screen. The new tab page that NewNoteCenter sets has a link to Myway.com, a search engine that’s controlled by Ask Applications, the same company that made NewNoteCenter; a search engine that makes money by showing ads with search results.
NewNoteCenter is made by Ask/Mindspark. It’s only one of many browser extensions that follow the same template or hijacking your browser, observing your habits, and then showing you interest-based ads. Other extensions made by Mindspark include NoteHomepage, WorldOfNotes, BestBackground, Utility Chest, TotalRecipeSearch, etc.
Features
NewNoteCenter is a browser extension, so its features should improve the browser somehow. But I don’t think it’s worth using.
Well, NewNoteCenter’s selling feature is sticky notes on your browser’s new tab. Basically the same type of notes that Windows (Sticky Notes) and macOS (Stickies) offer for free, with no ads, and not limited to your browser. I have a hard time seeing why anyone would use NewNoteCenter’s notes when those better options exist.
And yet, over one hundred thousand people did install NewNoteCenter. How did that happen?
How NewNoteCenter gets installed
Likely, most users did not install NewNoteCenter intentionally.
Despite having 100,000+ users, NewNoteCenter has zero reviews. That’s not normal for a regular extension, but expected for a hijacker. Many bad browser extensions sneak into browsers instead of being installed normally.
Web analytics shows that people who visited Newnotecenter.com (the site that installs NewNoteCenter) also saw other browser hijacker sites, like Smarteasaymaps.com and Mysocialshortcut.com. I’ve seen browser extensions like these being installed in bundles, three at a time. The last one installed overwrites the changes that an earlier extension made, like the Russian dolls. You can have multiple new tab hijackers installed at the same time and only see the last one.
NewNoteCenter could have been installed by some free program whose creator took money for bundling a few browser hijackers and installing them without really asking for your consent. Software bundling is commonly used to spread unwanted programs.
How to remove NewNoteCenter
It’s really better for your privacy and online security to get rid of NewNoteCenter and any other browser hijackers, and instead, use the sticky notes that are already available on your computer.
You can remove NewNoteCenter with an antivirus program (Spyhunter for PC, Combo Cleaner for Mac, or another application that you trust). You could also remove NewNoteCenter manually and I put the instructions for how to do that in the section below. Scroll down till you find your browser, or use the table of contents to the right of this article.
I just want to note that, if you don’t scan your computer with an antivirus program, then make sure to carefully review all the extensions that are installed on your web browser. Remove all the ones that are even slightly suspicious, that you did not install, or that you do not want in your browser. No extensions are needed for a browser to work, they’re all just optional add-ons, so don’t be shy about removing them.
