NewPlayer is a free online media player. Using this program you can play videos, create playlists, search for videos and much more. Sounds great, right? The truth is that it’s nothing more than an adware. It is listed as a PUP (potentially unwanted program) because NewPlayer will flood your with various ads while browsing the Internet. It is capable to operate in all most popular web browsers including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer. Some users think that it is a virus, but it’s only an adware and by installing it you personally agree to terms and conditions which says: “By accessing the Sites and downloading the Content, you hereby grant us permission to display promotional information, advertisements, and offers for third party products or services (collectively “Advertising”). The Advertising may include, without limitation, content offers for products or services, data, links, articles, graphic or video messages, text, software, music, sound, graphics or other materials or services.”. I.e. you give a permission to NewPlayer to show ads to you yourself.
As this adware travels mostly bundled with freebies, you need to think twice before downloading and installing something from the Internet. In case you decided to download something from a suspicious looking website, be very careful during the installation. Do not skip any steps and always pay attention to all terms and conditions. If possible, opt out for an advanced or custom install mode and try to check if any additional software that you are not aware of is not being installed. If your computer is already incepted with NewPlayer, scan it with some anti-spyware software like Spyhunter or malwarebytes and it will remove it automatically. Also, you can do it by your own, just follow our removal guide below.
Using Control Panel to remove the main NewPlayer components and installers
- Go to Control Panel. On Windows XP/Vista/7 open Start -> Control Panel , Add/Remove Programs or Uninstall . On Windows 8 enter Control Panel in the search box, then look for Uninstall a program. You may need to confirm that you are the administrator on this PC, in both cases.
- Look for NewPlayer and /or similar looking items on the list of programs. By default, I recommend removing Yontoo, WebCake, anything “savings” or “coupon” related. Scanning with Anti-Malware programs like Spyhunter or Stopzilla might give a good idea of what programs you should remove from there as well.
- Close Control Panel.
Removing NewPlayer from Internet Explorer
- Press Wench icon->Manage Add-ons.
- Go through Toolbars and extensions. Remove everything related to NewPlayer and items you do not know that are made not by Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, Oracle or Adobe.
- Close the Options.
Removing NewPlayer from Firefox
- Enter about:addons in URL field.
- Go through Extensions and Addons list, remove everything NewPlayer related and items you do not recognise. If you do not know the extension and it is not made by Mozilla, Google, Microsoft, Oracle or Adobe probably you do not need it.
- Optionally, reset Firefox: go to Firefox ->Help (Help in menu for OSX users) -> Troubleshooting Information. Then Reset Firefox.
Removing NewPlayer from Chrome
- Enter chrome://extensions in url field.
- Go through extensions list and remove programs you do not need, especially similar to NewPlayer. If unsure, you can disable them temporarily.
- Restart Chrome.
NOTE:
- If you found an extension that can’t be removed from the browser, it has either to be removed from Control Panel or with antimalware programs (like Spyhunter, malwarebytes) or program uninstallers (like RevoUninstaller).
