Newswe.org Redirects - How to remove

Newswe.org is a rogue website that serves as adware by abusing push notifications to deliver popup ads. Although the website is capable of pushing all those ads by just messing with your browser settings, it’s possible that adware already installed on a person’s computer has directed them to Newswe.org in the first place. The Newswe.org popup ads can not only be annoying, but also potentially dangerous by leading people to scams and malware.

Newswe.org — Designed to trick people

When you visit it, Newswe.org wants to get your permission to show you notifications. The website is made to look like it’s always loading a video and needs you to click “Allow” on the notification alert. This deceives some visitors and they click on “Allow”, possibly without even reading the alert. This method of manipulating users’ carelessness is used by very many similar “ad networks”: Install.notify-service.com, Videolol007.com, Blogsfeed.info.

Since the loading video on Newswe.org is fake, it never does load, even if the visitor pressed “Allow”. Instead, people are immediately directed to a sponsor website, often some random subscription to video streaming, a blog that sells magical pendants, or similar shady site that asks for people’s credit card details. Now that they’re getting popup ads, it can be difficult for them to trace the origin of the popups. And without knowing where they started, it’s difficult to know where to start to remove them.

Intrusive ads from Newswe.org

Various sponsors whose ads are not acceptable to professional advertising networks push them through Newswe.org instead. The ads show to the people who allowed notifications by Newswe.org. The popups appear every few minutes and pile on top of each other, annoying the user endlessly. And, because the ad origin can be difficult to track, some people simply suffer through the popups without knowing a solution. That’s what the developers of Newswe.org want — to have as many people as possible seeing their ads, no matter those people’s wishes.

This popups affects one’s web browsing experience negatively. Newswe.org’s ads use internet bandwidth, and use hardware resources, which puts a strain on older computers. Popups spawn on top of page content, and even appear on the Desktop. And if a person clicks on the wrong ad, they risk revealing their passwords, private info, or even downloading malware.

How ads can be dangerous

First of all, like all ads, malicious ones can track users’ information. People’s browsing history is valuable to marketers because they then show ads that they believe are relevant to each user. And this is fine, a lot of free commercial websites use ads to survive — except that there is no useful website, no content on Newswe.org that is being paid for by these ads. This is it cheaper than honest advertising for both Newswe.org, and the marketers.

Since Newswe.org does not have high standards for the safety of their ads, some of the popups could not only lead to scam sites, but be infected with malware. Clicking on them would download a virus, for example, a crypto miner. This can strain the infected computer’s resources while making money for some person on the other side of the world.

One example of information that should not be revealed to malicious actors is email addresses. Known real email addresses can be used to send people malicious spam. Ransomware is often distributed using spam emails, and a cryptovirus infection can (and does) cost some people all the files on their computer. Phishing and scam sites are also often spread by email.

Dishonest ads and spam email might direct people to a spoof website, which can result in login credentials being stolen. This is especially a problem if the account has a credit card connected to it. Amazon Shopper Satisfaction Survey, or the PayPal scam are examples of some simple, yet very dangerous attacks which use social engineering to hack people’s accounts.

How to stop Newswe.org ads

If there’s adware or some other potentially unwanted application installed on your computer and you know which specific program it is, go ahead and uninstall it. If you’re not sure which program is causing problems, try scanning your computer with Spyhunter to see if an antivirus program can find something. Adware is commonly distributed in freeware bundles and stealthily installs on people’s computers, sometimes without them even noticing, so it is possible that you are unaware of a malicious program having infiltrated your machine.

Your browser settings will need to be edited, too. Newswe.org is using notifications to push ads, but check your extensions, too — it is very easy to accidentally install a few, and malicious extensions can take control of which websites you go to.

If you’ve done all this and are still being redirected to Newswe.org and other unwanted URLs, especially if this is happening on multiple browsers, check this article — it is possible that a malicious program edited your settings.
