Newz Finder is a browser extension. It promises to help you access news in your browser, but its features are a little lacking.
To function, Newz Finder takes over your search engine setting. It shows news sites in search suggestions, but it also logs user search history and may open unwanted websites.
While Newz Finder is not harmful, it restricts browser customization and is bad for privacy. If you find it on your browser, you might want to remove it.

Is Newz Finder dangerous?
Newz Finder changes browser settings
Newz Finder promises “news search and reading” to your address bar. It’s supposed to show headlines and news topics in search suggestions.
However, Newz Finder is not without problems. After all, it changes the default search settings in your browser. This is a very important change that likely benefits the operators of Newz Finder more than the users.
Once Newz Finder is installed on your browser, the address bar at the top shows “Search Newz Finder”. And if you had been using the default new tab in your browser, then you might also notice that with Newz Finder, the search bar that used to be in the middle of your new tab page has disappeared. This does happen when the search engine settings are taken over.
Thanks to Newz Finder, Yahoo.com is set as the default search engine. Setting Yahoo search as default allows Newz Finder to make money, as described in its privacy policy. You can change it to Bing or Google in Newz Finder’s settings, but such a small selection is very limiting. Especially when by default Google Chrome allows you to use as default any search engine you wish.
It adds new search suggestions
To see Newz Finders news, you’re supposed to search the internet from your address bar and start your query with “@news”. Or you can search normally and let Newz Finder recognize news topics. All this can be managed in the extension’s settings.
Frankly, this doesn’t work great. Newz Finder has to recognize the query as something news related. If it does, it injects a suggested result that opens your selected news site (CNN by default). But this is finicky and doesn’t add much or any value to the search suggestions.
When it comes to getting news online, Newz Finders is just needlessly cumbersome and invasive compared to all the other options:
- I honestly think that it’s much faster and easier to just search a topic and browse Google or another search engine’s results.
- If you like a specific news site, bookmarks are a great tool to use.
- If you don’t have an RSS feed reader yet, definitely check one out.
It logs user data
When Newz Finder is installed, it replaces the default search with this website: Search.mybrowsingsafety.pro. Now, every time you search for something using the address bar in your browser, your query goes to Mybrowsingsafety.pro. This site is connected to Newz Finder.
Normally, your search queries are between you and your search engine. The traffic between these two points is encrypted and nobody, not even your ISP (internet service provider) can read it.
But with Newz Finder, all your search queries go through this site before being forwarded to your search engine. This allows Newz Finder to read your search history – something very valuable for advertisers.
Indeed, Newz Finder’s privacy policy confirms that this extension reads people’s search queries, as well as their location and IP. Remember that your search history may include personal information. And while I’m not too happy to trust Google with that, it at least allows me to read and manage this data. Newz Finder does not provide this interface and it is quite a bit less trustworthy.
How to get rid of Newz Finder
Uninstall Newz Finder from your browser. This will stop the extension from controlling your browser’s settings.
How was Newz Finder installed in the first place? Extensions like it sometimes use misleading ads, such as fake download links. Other times, they come bundled with freeware as optional offers. Was Newz Finder – the only adware app/extension that was installed this way?
To make sure your device is free from any more dubious apps and extensions, scan it with an anti-malware app, such as Spyhunter for PC, Spyhunter for Mac, or other security programs. They can detect suspicious apps and files that might be easy to miss when checking manually.
Open your browser settings and check your search and new tab preferences. Only allow the most trusted extensions to access and change these settings.
