Nuzzero is a browser add-on that acts as a search hijacker. It redirects your searches to Yahoo or another site, displays ads and unwanted notifications, and logs your browsing activities. It’s not very dangerous, but it’s certainly unhelpful and should be removed to protect your privacy and to give you back control over your browser settings.

How to remove Nuzzero hijacker
Uninstall bad browser extensions and find and remove all malicious programs. You can remove extensions simply by going into your browser settings or by right-clicking extension icons in the upper right corner of your browser (in Chrome browsers, extensions can be seen by clicking the Puzzle piece button). You can also use antivirus apps for this.
In some cases, malicious add-ons actually refuse to be removed: the browser might display that it’s being “managed by your organization”, or a similar message” If this happens while trying to uninstall Nuzzero, you might find this post helpful.
After removing Nuzzero, review your browser settings. Your default search engine should be set to whatever site you want to use to search the web. Look at your notification settings, too – the Nuzzero.com website asks visitors to accept its notifications which it can use to display ads and these need to be blocked separately:
- Chrome – open Settings, scroll down to Site settings (under Privacy and security), click on Notifications.
- Edge (Chromium) – open Settings, click Site Permissions, Notifications.
- Firefox – open Settings, Privacy & Security, scroll down to Permissions, and click on Settings next to Notifications.
- Safari – in the Safari menu, choose Preferences, Websites, Notifications.
Other instructions for removing browser add-ons and managing their settings can be found at the bottom of this page.
Find and remove all suspicious items: look at your recently-installed apps and browser add-ons, recently-downloaded files, and check your device with antivirus programs, such as Spyhunter for Windows, Combo Cleaner for macOS, and other anti-malware apps that can recognize potentially unwanted programs.
How Nuzzero affects browsers
When Nuzzero is installed, it changes the settings of your browser. It replaces the default search engine with Feed.nuzzero.com which leads to Yahoo. So, Nuzzero works like a Yahoo redirect virus. Just like a lot of browser hijackers, including those that are related to Nuzzero – Nusmash, Cranchit, SportsHDearchs, StreamsSiteSearch, TVStreamz, NewVideoSearch, and others.
Besides redirecting searches, Nuzzero also reads the browsing history and search history of its users. It might be called spyware for this. To be fair, this is a common problem for commercial browser extensions. Free browser extensions can be monetized by showing ads in your browser, forcing you to visit websites that show ads, or tracking your browsing history and selling that data. Chrome will try and warn users about this problem – you might start seeing more privacy information in the Web Store (Zdnet.com).
However, such browser extensions might offer a useful feature in exchange for the advertising and spying that they do. Nuzzero does not seem to have any useful features. In fact, it stays under the radar and might be difficult to notice.
How to avoid browser hijackers
If Nuzzero is so useless, how does it get installed at all? It seems like it tricks users into installing it with the help of deceptive ads online:
- Pop-up ads on file download sites. These ads open in new browser tabs and are designed to look like download buttons.
- “Recommended Extension” pop-ups on file download and free movie sites. These ads might imply (wrongly) that you must install Nuzzero to keep watching your movies.
- Ads in search results and various pop-up ads that are designed to look like a familiar program.
In addition, it’s possible that Nuzzero might get installed with other browser extensions or with free programs downloaded from the internet.
The way to avoid such problems is to be very careful and to never agree to install unknown browser extensions. You might also want to use ad blockers and antivirus apps to block malicious ads and warn you about suspicious programs.
