About Offers4U virus
At first sight, you may think these messages displayed by Offers4U can be quite useful, especially if you are willing to shop. Offers4U provides various coupons and discounts to purchase some products cheaper. However, the number of popups and constant redirections will make you change your mind. It is an annoying application that you will want to eliminate. In case you are keen to find out how to do that now, scroll down to the bottom of this page.
The main aims of Offers4U are to collect information about users’ browsing habits and to advertise some websites. Each pop-up by this adware has a link to some website so once you click on the message you end up visiting that page. The data about your browsing activities can be useful for other marketing related purposes in the future.
Actually, it is a very common technique employed by many adware infections, such as Ads by MegaOffers, Addonjet or OffersDirect. They all pretend to be useful tools that will provide discount offers and coupons, but in reality, they only seek to make money by displaying various advertisements.
Ads by Offers4U
Usually, advertisements delivered by this adware virus appear when you are paying a visit to e-commerce websites, such as eBay or Amazon. You will be offered to purchase some particular goods or services at very appealing price rate. Do not fall for this trick – most of the time those offers are fake, they are just trying to win your attention and make you click on one of those ads this way. And we suggest not to do that.
They are categorized as scam and it is a common technique used by various cyber criminals. Since scammy advertisements can’t be displayed on genuine advertising networks like Google Adwords or Facebook advertisements, crooks take advantage of adware networks like this one and deliver their messages anyway.
If it happens so that you click on the ad delivered by Offers4U you will be immediately redirected to other websites that might be owned by various cybercriminals, such as hackers or scammers. This way your computer can get infected with other viruses or if you attempt to purchase something there you can even get scammed and lose your hard earned money.
Distribution of the virus
Offers4U is installed to computers together with freeware from the Internet. It can be bundled to free video players, PDF creators, etc. and installed on your computer without your consent. To prevent installation of such programs, make sure you always choose a custom installation. Look for pre-checked boxes and do not allow to install any unfamiliar programs without your confirmation.
Also, this virus can be infiltrated by other viruses. So if you haven’t downloaded anything to your computer lately and Offers4U just appeared on out of nowhere, it might be a signal that your computer is infected with other viruses and you should take care of that too.
For instance, viruses like OnTargetYoga or search.hontheradio.co can infiltrate other infections while they are present on the computer, so the best solution in this kind of situation would be to run a scan with an anti-malware application. If you don’t have one yet, please take a look at our review category and select the one that fits your needs the best.

How to remove Offers4U using Windows Control Panel
Many hijackers and adware like Offerz4u install some of their components as regular Windows programs as well as additional software. This part of malware can be uninstalled from the Control Panel. To access it, do the following.- Start→Control Panel (older Windows) or press Windows Key→Search and enter Control Panel and then press Enter (Windows 8, Windows 10).
- Choose Uninstall Program (if you don't see it, click in the upper right next to "View by" and select Category).
- Go through the list of programs and select entries related to Offers4U . You can click on "Name" or "Installed On" to reorder your programs and make Offerz4u easier to find.
- Click the Uninstall button. If you're asked if you really want to remove the program, click Yes.
- In many cases anti-malware programs are better at detecting related parasites, thus I recommend installing Spyhunter to identify other programs that might be a part of this infection.
I worked this out for my Macs, but it might also lead you in the right direction:
I tried to get rid of the annoying “offers4u” pop-ups for days and followed all kinds of instructions, that I researched online. NOTHING worked (incl. AdwareMedic, Malwarebytes, ClamXav, Sophos, etc.). Neither on OS 10.9.x nor 10.6.8 (running both on different partitions). But it looks like, that I did find a SOLUTION, which I will describe with the following 6 steps:
1. Find out, on which websites the “offers4u” windows pop-up. In my case it was mostly on Amazon and on ebay, not immediately though, only after I was searching for some specific items. I tried to find out, to which domains or IPs the browser was connecting short before the “offers4u”-windows pop-up. As that happens so fast, it is nearly impossible to write down or memorize this info, so I recorded the screen with a screen recording program. I have uploaded the result here: http://vimeo.com/138000812 (PW = video). Going through the video you will see domains like cloudfront.net, mgicinsrc.org and mgicinsrc.info show up before the actual offers4u-windows pop up. So here are the next steps I did:
2. Using the selectivecookiedelete-Extension for Firefox, I deleted all cookies, that contained “cloudfront” and “mgicin”. If you don’t have this extension, I suggest, you delete all cookies.
3. Most important: I copied the file “hosts” (located in ~/private/etc/hosts) to my desktop, opened with a regular text program and added the following lines:
127.0.0.1 i.mgicinjs.info
127.0.0.1 f.mgicinjs.info
127.0.0.1 i.mgicinjs.org
127.0.0.1 mgicinjs.net
127.0.0.1 mgicinjs.com
127.0.0.1 dew9ckzjyt2gn.cloudfront.net
===> If OTHER domains show up in your browser, of course you need to paste those into the hosts-file <===
4. I deleted the original hosts-file and moved/copied the one created on the desktop to the etc-folder.
5. I ran “Repair Disk Permissions” with Disk Utility.
6. I restarted my iMac, ran Firefox and (until now) the offers4u annoyance did not reappear.
Theoretically this should also make offers4u disappear on all other browsers you are using (don't forget to delete the cookies there too).
Please respond to the above, if it worked for you too (or not). Best wishes, A.
I have just had a nightmare with offers4u popping up everytime I tried to search the net along with other tabs opening up constantly. Tried looking for add ons related to ‘offers4u’ and found nothing tried to delete it from computer using ‘Add or remove programs’ but found nothing relating to ‘offers4u’ – eventually I found an extension on firefox for ‘high stairs’ and found it also on ‘Add or remove programs’ – deleted both and problem solved. Just to make people aware it probably won’t be there as ‘Offers4u’
Great, thanks for helpful post!
