Although OSX Uninstaller is not very harmful, it can cause unnecessary frustration while it only offers very redundant and unnecessary features.

Problems with OSX Uninstaller
Some versions of OSX Uninstaller are detected by dozens of antivirus programs, as you can see on this VirusTotal page. This looks really bad. However, OSX Uninstaller is no virus. It’s just a very unnecessary app.
In general, apps like OSX Uninstaller, Max Uninstaller, MacRemover, and others are not recommended to use. They’re not necessarily malicious. But some of them remove too many files and break other apps, while others leave behind some of the files and offer zero benefits over the basic process of dragging an app to the Trash.
Other than that, OSX Uninstaller has a few issues and problems that make it a bit suspicious:
- OSX Uninstaller starts automatically every time you start your Mac, which is completely unnecessary. This app is absolutely not needed to run in the background. All it’ll do is just slow down your Mac and display unhelpful pop-ups.
- It’s hard to find the developer or the publisher of OSX Uninstaller (it’s AngularTech). Its home site doesn’t mention the developers anywhere, which is very suspicious because you can’t then check their reputation. But the hidden name speaks for itself, I guess.
- According to OSX Uninstaller’s privacy policy, your information might be used for targeted ads. Your email is used to send you promotions for other MacOS products.
- OSX Uninstaller’s site does not have enough information about refunds. This can make the process of getting a refund confusing. And there’s no free trial, only a very limited free scan, which is something quite disliked by a lot of cybersecurity vendors.
How to remove unwanted apps
People find OSX Uninstaller when they search for ways to uninstall an app form their Mac. Most apps on MacOS can be easily removed by just dragging them to Trash. Others come with special uninstallers which you can find in the app’s folder or on the publisher’s site. There’s no need to download an app for removing apps. And besides, there are app removers that are much more reliable than OSX Uninstaller.
This is all explained by Apple support in this article.
If there’s an app that refuses to go away, you might need to find and delete the files related to the app you’re trying to remove, review your System Preferences, etc. (How Malware Persists on macOS).
OSX Uninstaller and other app removers work by finding and deleting files related to the app that you’re trying to remove. They find the files that were added when the app was installed and they look for files that are related. They aren’t perfect – sometimes they remove too much, sometimes – too little. A better program than OSX Uninstaller probably wouldn’t hurt your Mac, but only the biggest app junkies ever need something like that.
Don’t use redundant apps if you don’t have to. Apple offers its own disk cleaner to remove junk files, a way to uninstall apps, and has many other useful utilities that potentially unwanted programs try to mimic.
How to remove OSX Uninstaller
You can remove OSX Uninstaller manually or you can use an anti-malware program like Combo Cleaner. Review all of the apps that you have installed (manually and with antivirus apps).
It’s best to follow Apple’s instructions for removing apps – they can be found on this Support.apple.com page and they work most of the time. Installing an additional app like OSX Uninstaller is very unnecessary.
