PdfEasyTool looks like it could help you with PDF conversion right in your web browser. Unfortunately, it also behaves in a way that’s characteristic of browser hijackers: PdfEasyTool changes some of your browser settings to show you ads and waste your time. If you have PdfEasyTool installed, consider removing it, as it is primarily there to show you advertisements.

Is PdfEasyTool – a browser hijacker?
PdfEasyTool is a browser extension. A web browser is a program used to access the internet, while a browser extension is an optional browser add-on made to change the browser somehow, such as by adding functions or changing settings. According to ZDNet, there are under two hundred thousand browser extensions published for Google Chrome. So, it’s not surprising that there are some extensions out there whose creators didn’t have your best interests in mind.
Browser extensions that are potentially dangerous or exploitative are usually called browser hijackers. Most of them work either by changing your browser’s new tab page (the default page that opens in your browser) or by changing your search engine (the site that delivers your internet search results). This lets browser hijackers control how you search the internet, what ads you see with your search results, and promote partnered sites. Which lets browser hijackers make money from their users.
Pdfeasytool.com does warn about advertisements being delivered through PdfEasyTool, though its description on the Chrome Web Store does not. Here’s the warning:
When you install the Extension, you are giving us permission to display text links, new tabs, pop-ups, push notifications, video and/or banner advertisements based on the web content you view.
The ads are not the problem – the problem with PdfEasyTool is that it replaces your search settings with Pdfeasytool.com to deliver those ads. It is not required for PDF conversion to work, it’s only done to monetize PdfEasyTool. And it makes it look like PdfEasyTool’s only concern is to monetize the users.
It’s not that PdfEasyTool is malicious, but if you decide to use it, make sure that you’re okay with how that will affect your internet browsing.
How to avoid hijackers
PdfEasyTool offers to help you quickly and easily convert files to PDF format. PDF files are great because they can be displayed by lots of programs, including web browsers, and because they cannot be easily modified, making them a great choice for sharing important documents.
Here’s the problem, though: PdfEasyTool does what most of your programs can already do. Most editing programs can export files in PDF format or “print” them to a PDF file. This means that a program like PdfEasyTool is unlikely to be useful.
Another thing that makes PdfEasyTool suspicious is that it is not clear who made it. I just can’t find the name of the company that developed PdfEasyTool. It looks like it might be related to MapsFox, CouponRockstar, and a bunch of other extensions that use the same website template, but I don’t know for sure. And this is strange because one common piece of advice to avoid malware is to look up who developed the program. Without knowing the developer’s reputation it is harder to know if PdfEasyTool is safe or not. On its own, developers being hidden is a bad sign.
Another bad sign is PdfEasyTool having zero reviews or ratings on the Chrome Web Store, despite having over a thousand installs. This might mean that users don’t know that PdfEasyTool is installed, which is also pretty common for browser hijackers. Hijackers tend to use misleading ads or adware bundling to get users, which can result in people letting an extension to be installed without even realizing that. If PdfEasyTool appeared in your browser unexpectedly, your first reaction may have been “Why did my search results change?”.
How to remove PdfEasyTool
To stop PdfEasyTool from hijacking your browser, you only need to uninstall the extension. The manual instructions are in the following section and they can be found on PdfEasyTool.com, in the Uninstall section.
If you are concerned for how PdfEasyTool made it on your computer, scan it with an antivirus tool, such as Combo Cleaner for Mac, Spyhunter for PC, etc. If there are bundlers or adware programs on your device, antivirus programs should find them and warn you.
