What is Qanswers.site?

It looks like a forum site

Qanswers.site is a fake forum. It has one thread that starts with the message “Help me please find” and the name of a file. This thread continues with “Look here:” and a download link.

Qanswers.site automatically generates download links according to people’s search terms. These links lead to scam subscription sites.

In other words, Qanswers.site is a malicious advertising site. It promises visitors to help them find a movie, song, school book, manual, device driver, or another file that they’re looking for, and then it directs them to sign up for a scammy subscription service.

It should be noted that though Qanswers.site uses the Question2Answer logo, this doesn’t mean anything. Question2Answer is a free and open source platform for Q&A sites that anyone can use.

It advertises fleeceware

Qanswers.site promises free HD movies

Qanswers.site advertises fleeceware sites. Fleeceware is malware that comes with hidden and excessive subscription fees.

First, the sites that Qanswers.site promotes claim to offer you a free HD streaming service that you can use to watch the movie that you were presumably searching for. (Maybe you weren’t looking for a movie, but Qanswers.site wouldn’t know that, as it just copied the text of your search query.)

Of course, in order to access this free HD movie, you’re asked for your credit card information, as well as your name, address, and email.

It leads to scam subscription sites

Qanswers.site advertises Zedplays.com, Musiczum.com, 123plays.com, Popplayz.com, Music611.com, as well as Movie-tonight.com, Content-tab.com, Media-bucket.com, and a bunch of similar sites. All you need to know about them is that they should be avoided. Besides sites like Qanswers.site, they use fake surveys and giveaways, such as Annual Visitor Survey.

These sites do not offer HD streaming for free. They’re overpriced services that cost around €50 or $60 a month. They offer 5 or 7 days of free trial which is not actually free but costs around $1. And for those who do sign up, they offer a meager and disappointing selection of media.

In contrast, real subscription services, such as Netflix, Audible, Spotify, Game Pass, and others cost under $20 and often below $10 a month.

How to deal with the Qanswers.site scam

Be protective of your personal information

Even though the ads on Qanswers.site lead to malicious websites, they do not hurt you for as long as you don’t type in your real credit card information. That’s the most important thing – to be protective of your personal information and not share it with unfamiliar sites.

If you were to look up the reviews of the sites that promise those free HD movies, like Zedplays (Trustpilot.com) and Music661.com (Trustpilot.com), you would find people complaining that their credit card details were stolen and that their money is being taken without their permission.

If you did reveal your payment information to a site that is now abusing it, call your bank and ask for help. You may be advised to get a new card.

Remove adware and block malicious websites

In addition, scan your computer with Combo Cleaner for macOS, Spyhunter for Windows, and other antivirus tools. Look for malware infections and for malicious browser extensions. If any are found, remove them.

Mostly, this is important to check that your web browser isn’t affected by adware, that your search engine isn’t replaced and that ads aren’t being injected into your webpages.

To avoid sites like Qanswers.site, use a good ad blocker. Ad blockers stop some ads and some of them stop malicious websites from opening. They’re not 100% effective but they can help you stay safe online.
