Qssc.xyz is a search-hijacking site that’s spread by malicious browser extensions. The malicious extension described here is Sirros APP, but there were others, such as SApp+ and Suls APP.

When Qssc.xyz hijacks your browser, every time you search the internet on Google or on Bing, it causes S3arch.page or another site to load the results instead.

What are Sirros APP and Qssc.xyz

Sirros APP is an interesting browser extension. It can be found on the Chrome Web Store and it has over 1,000 users (but no reviews or ratings). It uses the Pokeball icon from Iconspedia, but when it’s installed, its icon is invisible in the extension area. Sirros APP borrows its description from MarineAquariumLite, probably just to fill space, but also possibly to confuse users.

During installation, Sirros APP asks to access Bing, Google, and Qssc.xyz sites, as well as to read your browsing history. This allows it to read what sites you are on and to close and open tabs in your browser.

Once it’s installed, Sirros APP detects when you search in Google or on Bing, then strips your search query out of the URL. Sirros APP then opens a new tab in your browser with Qssc.xyz and your search query. It redirects to Searchmes.xyz, which then opens a S3arch.page page with your search results.

Sirros APP is a search hijacker, a malicious browser extension that seeks to make money by forcing you to visit its websites and look at the ads posted there. Qssc.xyz is the first of the websites participating in the redirection scheme.

If you go into your browser’s settings and into the Extensions section, or click the puzzle button on Chrome and then click Manage extensions, you can see the Sirros APP extension installed on your browser.

Effects of the Qssc.xyz hijacking

Here are some of the effects that a Qssc.xyz/Sirros APP hijacking can have:

• Once Sirros APP is installed, it and Qssc.xyz can read your search queries. This is bad for privacy, especially because neither of them make their privacy policies available.
• Because queries need to be redirected from Qssc.xyz to Searchmes.xyz to S3arch.page, they take a long time to load.
• Poor quality search results, very few results, way too many ads.
• Some of the ads are unsafe, like those leading to Izito, Zapmeta, and other sites that advertise browser hijackers.

The people behind Qssc.xyz and Sirros APP make money from hijacking traffic and showing their own ads. This has nothing but bad consequences for the victims.

How to remove Sirros APP

As Sirros APP is the one redirecting you to Qssc.xyz, it needs to be uninstalled.

Uninstall unwanted extensions by going into browser settings, Extensions, finding the Sirros APP entry, and clicking the Remove button. You can also remove Sirros APP from your Extensions area shown by clicking the puzzle button in Chrome.

You can also use anti-malware apps like Combo Cleaner for macOS, Spyhunter for Windows, and others. A scan would be helpful in checking for any additional malware that may be on your device.

Sirros APP likely infects computers with the help of deceptive ads, like unexpected redirects that demand that you install an extension to use a website (these are usually not real) and ads made to look like download links.

But it could also be installed by a bundler. If so, more than just Sirros APP could have been installed.
