It’s promoted very aggressively, it provides an outdated user interface, can easily be replaced by a few bookmarks in your browser. And though QuickFlightTracker does allow you to track flights using a pop-up in the new tab of your browser, this is something that can be easily done without all the search hijacking and home page replacing.
The truth is that QuickFlightTracker is an excuse for the creators of this add-on to get more people to use the MyWay engine which is where that search bar in the middle of the page leads to. Then ads can be displayed together with search results to more users, which means more revenue for MyWay.
QuickFlightTracker is similar to free.flightsearchapp.com, GetFlightInfo, OnlineMapSearch, and other browser hijackers that promote the MyWay search engine.
Unless you specifically installed it because you wanted it, QuickFlightTracker should be removed from your browser so that you can gain back the control of your browser settings:

How QuickFlightTracker was installed
QuickFlightTracker is advertised on various websites, especially ones with browser games. It can also be found by just searching for words like “Quick Flight Tracker”.
The installation page of the extension is totally ambiguous. Let’s say you were looking for a way to check your flight reservation. And you find a page like this:
If you’re distracted, in a hurry, or just aren’t very experienced with misleading ads, you’d be forgiven for thinking that this page will take you to a website where you can check your information. Instead, it leads to a plugin installation that replaces your browser’s home page and search engine, which allows the creators of this plugin to make money from advertisements in your search results. It hijacks your browser with the help of misleading ads.
Anyone who is distracted and in a rush can click on the big green button without thinking, just out of reflex. Google has been fighting against this sort of behavior for a few years, but the creators of misleading extensions always come up with new ways of deceiving users.
Another way that QuickFlightTracker can be installed is through bundling. That’s when a program is being installed and, during the process, an additional application is offered. The problem is that how that’s been abused to sneak programs into people’s computers without them noticing. If you ever installed one program but ended up with a couple more and couldn’t remember how they got on your computer, they must have been bundled with the first app. Browser extensions like QuickFlightTracker are bundled with free programs often, they’re really easy to miss during the installation.
There are thousands of people who have QuickFlightTracker in their browsers, and I doubt that even a handful of them installed this add-on because they wanted it.
Issues with browser hijackers
QuickFlightTracker isn’t any sort of malware, but it’s still worth being concerned about it. This browser extension affects how your browser behaves.
The fact that QuickFlightTracker pushes the MyWay search engine instead of allowing you to choose which one you’d like to use (Google, Bing, DDG, whatever else) and that you literally can’t use another new tab page while QuickFlightTracker is installed means that your ability to customize your browser is very limited. Some people might have spent ages getting their new tab just right — only to have QuickFlightTracker replace it.
Privacy concerns are also real. QuickFlightTracker can:
- See and manage what extensions you have installed in your browser.
- Send you pop-up notifications.
- Read your browsing history.
- See what your search for using the MyWay or Ask engines.
It’s a lot, especially when you remember that QuickFlightTracker exists to allow MyWay to show you ads in the search results and how valuable browsing data is for advertising.
How to remove QuickFlightTracker
QuickFlightTracker is easy to install, but also easy to remove (in most cases). It can simply be deleted from your list of extensions with no trouble. The section below has instructions for each browser.
You might benefit from scanning your computer with an anti-malware program (SpyHunter (PC), Combo Cleaner (Mac)) to make sure that you don’t have adware showing you the types of ads that promote browser hijackers (browser hijackers often use rogue websites to show their ads) or more junkware that could be messing with your browser settings.
