Quick Local Weather Pop-ups - How to remove

Quick Local Weather is a browser add-on that sets search.hquicklocalweather.com as the home page. This new home page baffles some people who don’t remember installing the extension at all, but it’s meant to help people find weather conditions and forecasts easier — by simply following a link on their home page. It also interrupts your browsing be redirecting your searches and behaving like an adware virus.

Knowing the weather is, of course very practical – it can help plan activities, get ready for appropriate conditions, even avoid allergies. Many people use the internet to keep up with weather forecasts and they find that immensely useful. The problem with Quick Local Weather and the search.hquicklocalweather.com page is that the weather functionality is used as a disguise for the real goal of this application, which is to hijack the browser, get access to people’s browsing habits and history, and expose them to more ads than before.

Issues with Quick Local Weather

While Quick Local Weather can be used more-or-less without any issues, it’s safer to remove it from your browser. The add-on has some problems:

  • Triggers anti-malware programs.
  • Collects data about what you do online.
  • Exposes you to a higher amount of advertising.
  • Does not provide useful functionality.

This accusation on Quick Local Weather is supported by not only the many security programs that consider the application to be suspicious, but also by the fact that search.hquicklocalweather.com is an obvious clone of search.hweathernation.co, search.hweatherforecaster.com, search.hdopplerweatherradar.co, and many other pages just like that. All these add-ons do the same thing: they try to get you to use the search engine that they promote and they use their access to your search queries and browsing history to help advertisers decide what ads would be most effective on you.

This would be fine if Quick Local Weather provided good-quality functions that would make it worth being spied on. For example, a lot of people happily use Google’s free services despite Google putting ads in its search results and modifying people’s browsing experience based on their private information. But Quick Local Weather is not good enough — all that search.hquicklocalweather.com does for the user is a single page that replaces your home page. The page has a few links to weather websites — that’s it. Using this extension is worse than just saving the links in your bookmarks. Your plain browser is more useful and offers more customization than having search.hquicklocalweather.com hijacking your home page does.

For what little functionality Quick Local Weather provides, it changes settings a bit too much, especially on the Chrome browser. Making it harder to use any search engine other than the one on the search.quicklocalweather.com page, sometimes even displaying its own ads on other websites, unwanted pop-ups, and recording data about you — this behavior earns Quick Local Weather the label of a browser hijacker. Browser hijackers are created to look like normal browser extensions but exist mainly to display ads and are different from ad-supported software because they hardly even try to be helpful or useful.

So, even though Quick Local Weather is functional, it’s better to find a safer alternative. One that has a good-reputation developer standing behind it, substantive and candid reviews, and is honest about what it does and why.

How to remove Quick Local Weather

The add-on can easily be removed manually — the instructions are a little different for each browser, though. They are placed in the guide below.

The problem is, Quick Local Weather is distributed in some dishonest ways:

  • It comes bundled with free programs and you might install it by accident.
  • It’s advertised by adware that has already infected your computer.
  • It’s installed by malware in the background without you even doing anything.

So, Quick Local Weather might not be the only problem with your browser or your computer. Check what other extensions you have installed, make sure that no notification spammer can latch onto your browser, and scan your device with professional and aggressive anti-malware tool, like Spyhunter or even Malwarebytes that can detect potentially unwanted and suspicious applications even if they don’t behave like malware — if you know how Quick Local Weather infected your computer, you can better avoid unsafe programs in the future.
