QuickPDFMerger - How to remove

QuickPDFMerger is a browser add-on for merging PDF documents in your browser. Actually, this add-on changes your starting page in your web browser and adds to it a few links to online PDF converter sites. QuickPDFMerger serves as a proxy to using those easily accessible sites and, in exchange, advertises to you in pop-ups and web search results. It’s basically adware.

QuickPDFMerger is an adware browser extension not worth keeping installed:

Problems with QuickPDFMerger

QuickPDFMerger was created by Mindspark, a company that has a lot of useless browser extensions – all made to promote the MyWay.com search engine. Like QuickPDFMerger, they change your staring page in your browser, put a search bar in the middle and link it to MyWay.com, and a few other links that are supposed to fulfill the extension’s functions.

The problem with MyWay.com is that it only serves to generate ad revenue to its owner. You can use it to search the web, but it has no standout features and the number of ads that it shows is above what some mainstream search engines show. Additionally, QuickPDFMerger reads your search terms when you’re using MyWay.com. These search terms, together with your other information (like your browsing history) are used to show you targeted ads online.

QuickPDFMerger, as a browser extension, has a lot of power. Not only can it change your starting page and read your browsing history, it can also show you pop-up ads. The pop-ups can appear in the form of notifications, which are often abused by adware sites like Check-out-this.site to spread scams and malware.

QuickPDFMerger is a copy of EasyPDFCombine, FreePDFCombiner, FileConvertOnline, and a bunch of others. These browser extensions are certainly not created with the user’s best interests in mind. Rather, they are made to advertise to you and to spy on you.

How QuickPDFMerger spreads

Not a lot of people find QuickPDFMerger on their own. There are lots of sites online that offer to merge PDF documents for free, and QuickPDFMerger would definitely not be the first of the search results. Even if they install it to try it, this adware is way too intrusive and inconvenient. And yet, QuickPDFMerger has got hundreds of thousands of users.

One way that browser add-ons like QuickPDFMerger get installed is when they’re advertised online, especially through ads that mislead people into believing that they have to install the software. I haven’t seen QuickPDFMerger do this, though.

"QuickPDFMerger"

One of the ways that QuickPDFMerger gets so many users is by being distributed with other programs. When you download freeware from download sites, there’s a chance that it has optional offers included with it. If you download freeware regularly, you might be keenly aware of this. Optional offers tend to be included with free programs as offers to try out a new search engine, enhance your web search, or convert documents for free. They’re pre-approved and avoiding them getting installed requires you to find and uncheck their checkboxes. Not everyone does (often – because they’re intentionally well-hidden), and they end up with QuickPDFMerger and other unwanted software installed.

How to remove QuickPDFMerger

For the various reasons mentioned earlier in the post, multiple anti-malware products detect QuickPDFMerger as unsafe. To remove this adware, you can use an anti-malware scanner, like Combo Cleaner for Mac or SpyHunter for PC. An anti-malware scan would detect most potentially unwanted programs.

You can also just uninstall QuickPDFMerger manually, by going to your browser settings. Check all of your extensions. For example, QuickPDFMerger tries to get you to install Search Extension by Ask in some circumstances, which is another adware by the same company, so it also should probably be removed.

To avoid browser adware like QuickPDFMerger, you can do a few things:

  • Scan every installer that you download. Make sure that the security program that you’re using can detect PUPs and other mild threats.
  • Go through all the settings when installing a free commercial program. Check custom settings. And check the installed applications before and after the installation to make sure that no unwanted stuff was installed in the background.
  • Don’t install browser add-ons that you do not trust. Trustworthy browser extensions should have honest and helpful reviews, ask only for necessary permissions, and be made by an honest and reputable developer. QuickPDFMerger fits none of those criteria.
