Recipe Hub is a browser extension that replaces the new tab page and redirects searches to the Myway.com site. Recipe Hub was made by Mindspark and though its function should be to help you search for recipes, it’s more interested in capturing your internet searches and inflating Myway.com’s userbase. Recipe Hub is not malicious, but there are much better ways to find recipes online.

What is Recipe Hub
New tab hijacker
Recipe Hub is presented by its creators as a browser extension to help with discovering recipes. As described in our article on Newtabtools.com, Recipe Hub, under its shiny surface, hides the core of a browser hijacker.
Browser hijackers are browser extensions that change the settings of a browser to manipulate how you search the internet and what ads you see. Web browsers are the programs we use to view webpages and browse the internet. Any program that manipulates the browser to inject ads or to redirect links gets a lot of power over the user. That’s the reason why many antivirus programs flag Recipe Hub as unwanted, malware, and adware (Virustotal link).
Recipe Hub changes the new tab page in the browser. It also reads your browsing history, manages your apps and themes, and can read your data on Ask.com and Myway.com. Other recipe-themed browser hijackers made by the same company include 100sofRecipes, DailyRecipeGuide, RecipeSearch, RecipeKart, and others.
The new tab page is the default page that your browser opens in a new tab. Some people use their favorite search engine, others use the new tab page where their frequently visited sites are listed. The new tab page opens when you press the buttons Ctrl and T on PC or Cmd and T on Mac, or when you click the little plus button at the top of your browser.
Adware
It’s very valuable for Recipe Hub to control your new tab page: it offers links to its own sites, as well as a search box that opens Myway.com, a site that belongs to Recipe Hub’s creators – Mindspark/Ask Applications. This means that Recipe Hub does indirectly make money for its makers from the ads shown in Myway.com’s search results.
Now, there’s nothing wrong with Recipe Hub being an ad-supported browser extension. But Recipe Hub hardly offers anything worth paying (with your time and attention) for. It links to Choosemyplate.gov and to Allrecipes.com, two sites that were not made by Mindspark and did not cost it anything. The third recipe link just opens Myway.com. Recipe Hub doesn’t really provide anything worth paying for.
How to remove Recipe Hub
Instructions for removing Recipe Hub from your web browser are posted below. I would only advise you to check each of your installed extensions and make sure that it’s safe. Browser hijackers sometimes promote one another or get installed in bundles, two or three at a time. So, it’s best to remove them all out in one fell swoop. Search extension by Ask, History Hide, etc. are some examples.
You can scan your computer with an anti-malware program, such as Combo Cleaner for macOS, Spyhunter for Windows, and other apps that detect PUPs (potentially unwanted programs). This helps check and make sure that no malware is left on your computer. If there is, if antivirus programs detect something, you should look into it.
Knowing how Recipe Hub got installed can aid in its removal:
- You might have simply seen an ad for it online. Be wary of similar ads.
- Your browser or computer may have already been hijacked by adware, spamming malicious and deceptive ads, including those for browser hijackers.
- Recipe Hub could have been installed by another program, a bundler. Bundlers are programs (usually free) that offer optional software installations during setup and install them by default. It’s a widespread model to monetize free programs, a famous example is Flash Player installing McAfee.
If Recipe Hub or another site is forcing pop-up ads to appear in your web browser, that’s something that can be fixed in browser settings as described in this article on web push notifications.
