How to remove Recipesnowtab.com
If Recipesnowtab.com has taken over your web browser and shows up in each new tab page, the cause is the Recipes Now browser extension. Recipes Now needs to be removed and then there’ll be nothing forcing Recipesnowtab.com to hijack your new tab page.
Besides Recipesnowtab.com, make sure to check your other browser extensions, programs, and apps. Look for Find My Recipes Tab, Get Online Recipes, 100s Of Recipes, and other browser add-ons that try to change your new tab page.
So, scan your computer with an antivirus tool like Spyhunter for Windows, Combo Cleaner for macOS, or another program. Anti-malware programs should detect all the malicious and potentially harmful browser extensions, as well as any suspicious files on your computer.
You can remove Recipes Now on your own, or you can use your antivirus program. Instructions for manual removal are below.
Recipesnowtab.com does ask you to allow notifications from the site. So, if you’re getting unwanted notification pop-ups from Recipesnowtab.com, check out this post on how to block them. It’s just a setting in your browser. You can block individual site notifications or all notification alerts.
How Recipesnowtab.com changes the browser
Once Recipes Now is installed, it does two main things: replaces the new tab page with Recipesnowtab.com and starts reading your browsing and search history. On top of that, Recipesnowtab.com asks you to allow it to send you notifications, which are little pop-ups on your screen.
In the Chrome Web Store, Recipes Now is presented as an assistant to accessing online recipes. It searches for recipes on Totalrecipesnetwork.com (which is owned by the same company as Recipes Now) and has a few links to other recipe-themed sites. That is mildly helpful, but it doesn’t make up for the inconvenience caused by the changed new tab page.
The Recipes Now extension doesn’t need to replace the new tab page. For example, it could appear as an extension pop-up. But how would it hijack your searches, then?
Recipesnowtab.com has a search box in the middle of the page that opens Search.yahoo.com regardless of your search settings. It also has quick links to clickbait-filled sites like Mynewswire.co, Myemailcentral.com, and Nationalweatheragency.org.
It appears as though Recipesnowtab.com’s main purpose is to lead people to ad-filled sites which then make money from the views and clicks.
How to avoid browser hijackers
A lot of malware out there is adware – a type of unwanted software that redirects your browser, injects ads into your webpages, tracks your activities, and sends you unwanted notifications. These things don’t require a program to be installed on your computer, only a browser extension. And browser extensions are very easy to install.
One of the ways that Recipesnowtab.com could have appeared on your computer is by being installed by another program – an adware bundler. Adware bundlers are free programs that install additional unwanted software. It’s how some freeware is monetized.
Some low-reputation download sites grab free software and repackage it to include junkware. That’s why it’s important to watch where you download programs from. And if, during setup, you notice an offer to “enhance your browser” with Recipes Now or some other app, then either close the installer or look for settings to refuse the offers.
Recipesnowtab.com can find new users in some other ways, too:
- it could be offered during the installation of other browser hijackers,
- promoted by various alternative search engines, like Hidemyhistory.co,
- shown in notification pop-ups by dubious websites,
- advertised on some recipe sites.
Don’t install browser extensions just because a website said that you should. Malicious sites will say anything to get you to follow their instructions. But if you do find yourself installing an extension, be careful. You should be presented with a list of permissions that it needs. Recipes Now asks to change your new tab page, other hijackers want to control your search engine. Yet others want to read and change your data on all websites. Don’t install browser extensions that want these permissions without giving a good explanation. And if you do install them, removing hijackers is usually pretty easy.
