How Reclick.club shows the pop-ups
Reclick.club is a website, yet it behaves like a persistent adware infection. The biggest problem with Reclick.club is that it can show pop-ups even when you’re not on the site. Whenever your web browser is open, Reclick.club can pester it with unwanted notifications.
Notifications can be useful – they can let you know about new emails, articles, personal messages. But you have to intentionally and voluntarily allow each website to send them to your browser.
For years, malicious websites like Reclick.club, Robotcaptcha.info, Install.notify-service.com, and others would trick people into subscribing to their notifications (“press the Allow button to…”) and spam them with ads and monetized links. This affected desktops, tablets, phones, and just about any device that had an internet browser installed.
Notification spam became a big problem. Browser developers started hiding notification prompts to make sure that no one subscribed to notifications without meaning to. But the spammers aren’t deterred.
Reclick.club still manages to get people to enable its notifications:
- It advertises on infected sites (sites injected with malicious code that causes them to send each visitor to Reclick.club) and on free video streaming sites (pirating sites),
- Reclick.club shows a picture of a loading video, a warning to prove that you’re not a robot, or a confirmation that you’re at least 18 years old. Then it asks you to press the Allow button to proceed.
- Afterward, Reclick.club opens promoted links and other adware sites.
Opening the notification dialog in your browser and allowing Reclick.club to send notifications means that it can now display pop-ups on your screen whenever your browser is open.
Dangers of the Reclick.club pop-ups
It’s bad enough that Reclick.club shows unwanted pop-up ads on people’s screens. It shows pop-ups with the same ads again and again. To make things worse, Reclick.club promotes malicious and scammy sites that could put people in danger.
For example, the first site that Reclick.club opened for me was a scam site called Youcansuccessful.club. This site is very similar to Getquanntity.club which we’ve already posted about. Youcansuccessful.club is part of a subscription scam for Hugegame.net. It promises you a free prize (such as a new phone) to make you fill out a form with your personal information, then uses that information to sign you up for a subscription service without your knowledge.
Reclick.club also opens other dangerous sites, including other notification spammers, as well as scareware sites, shady medical supplements and diet pills, get-rich-quick schemes, and other content that’s usually banned from safe and reputable websites.
Being banned from advertising with the mainstream ad-networks, what other choice do scammers and malicious actors have but to work with adware and malicious sites.
How to stop Reclick.club pop-up ads
First of all, if you often have problems with malicious sites, then consider using anti-malware programs with real-time security. They can block malicious and infected sites. Some ad-blockers can also be helpful.
To block the pop-up ads shown by Reclick.club, open your web browser (the one that keeps showing the pop-ups) and follow these instructions:
- Chrome – type “chrome://settings/content/notifications” in the address box.
- Safari – in the Safari menu, choose Preferences, Websites, Notifications.
- New Edge – type “edge://settings/content/notifications” in the address box.
- Firefox – open Settings, Preferences, Privacy & Security, scroll down to Permissions, and click on Settings next to Notifications.
Now, you should be on a page that lists all the sites that are allowed to send notifications to your web browser. All the sites that you’ve clicked the “Allow” button for when they showed the notification dialog. It’s soo easy to do by accident that you shouldn’t be surprised if you find more than one site that you don’t even recognize.
For example, Reclick.club is related to Watch-video.net, Superinterestinginfo.info, Check-you-robot.online, Checkandgo.info, and a few other sites. If you notice them in your subscriptions, don’t hesitate to block them, too.
To block notifications, click on the button next to the address and, in the drop-down menu, choose the “Block” option (it might also be called “Deny”).
Finally, scan your computer with an anti-malware tool, such as Combo Cleaner for macOS, Spyhunter for Windows, or another antivirus program that you’re comfortable with. The scan results will show if there are any suspicious programs on your device that you might want to remove. Sites like Reclick.club promote malware, so it’s important to check that your device didn’t get infected.
