RevContent is a semi-legal content-distributer service that was first introduced in 2013. It is not to be treated as a malware infection or a virus: it is a legitimate company. Our concern is focused on the notion that content which is ‘sponsored by RevContent’ is identified to belong to units of fabricated articles, news and services. Since some of the advertisers that begin their association with RevContent could be aimed to commit ad fraud, you should be aware of exactly what can be sprinkled on your visited websites.

Update of RevContent service
Controversial advertising platform
RevContent has to be treated with caution: while the network itself has won awards and has grown into the largest content recommendation network in terms of reach, its ad module has been exploited for distribution of fake news and other disturbing material (Digiday). It is no surprise that among 250 billion recommendations released into the fields of the Internet monthly, some of them are bound to be rotten eggs.
In June of 2017, it appears, RevContent committed to transforming its service. The additional layer of credibility is expected to arrive thanks to additional efforts that the service will put to fight fake news (Martechtoday). People now will obtain a chance to report material by marking it as “fake news”. Furthermore, the RevContent indicated plans to assign trustworthy third-parties like Snopes.com to authenticate transmitted material. Other similar networks have also been burnt by the concept of fake news. Taboola is a competitor of RevContent and if any one of these platforms would apply more security measures, it will work as a huge advantage.
That said, privacy is not RevContent’s friend. This platform targets people based on our interests, which is contrary to privacy online. Targeted ads are often presented as being good for users but more often, they’re just an annoying reminder that we’re constantly being tracked.
Low-quality ads
RevContent, as a platform for advertising, has a lot of rules for its sponsored material like refusing to promote material that contains fake documents, child pornography, illegal drugs, legal or synthetic highs, herbal drugs, hate-ads that are directed against a specific person or organization and etc. But that doesn’t mean that all of the content promoted by RevContent is safe. Much of it is misleading and reads a lot like fake news.
Despite the fact that RevContent is a respectable company, you should not immediately assume that the services, goods and articles it delivers are 100% safe and accurate. Its partners are aiming to receive as big revenue as possible and in order to do this, they will take advantage of this advertising platform. Especially because RevContent displays native ads that are designed to look like articles, which makes people take them more seriously than any regular ads.
RevContent has been criticized for allowing deceptive, misleading and disruptive advertisements to be displayed as their supported content. While the company clearly has positive features and has won awards for its practices, its promoted material cannot always be trusted. As it has been emphasized, the service can inject promotional content which is clearly fake and its purpose is to mainly generate revenue for certain advertisers.

About RevContent adware
Clickbait-like ads
You may encounter RevContent ads at a rate that seems excessive. To a point where you might suspect an adware infection related to RevContent. RevContent’s ads look like article links but they’re always marked with its logo at the top. You can also recognize the ads because they repeat quite often. Here are some examples of RevContent ad “headlines”:
- “The Genius Pill That Is Taking The Country By Storm”
- “Doctors Amazed: Do This Immediately If You Have Diabetes (Watch)”
- “This Video Will Soon Be Banned. Watch Before It’s Deleted”
- “Older Men Need to Know This 1 Weird Tip Before It’s Too Late”
As you can see, many RevContent’s ads use clickbait tactics, similar to Taboola and Adblade.
Usually ads displayed by RevContent appear on controversial news sites like Breitbart. They fit right in, appearing in the sidebar and using the same format and font as real article links, no doubt leading some to click on them without realizing these are advertisements.
Deceptive advertisements
In addition, RevContent advertises with browser hijackers and new tab replacers. Sites like Myemailcentral.com, Mynewswire.co, Totalvideos.tv, Nationalweatheragency.org and others are absolutely full of RevContent and other ads. The problem is that these sites come with browser hijackers – dangerous browser extensions that trick their way into being installed and then interfere with your browsing by promoting related sites and redirecting searches. It appears as though some of RevContent’s ads also lead to more browser hijackers. These and other programs lead to RevContent adware.
If it happens so that you click on one of those advertisements displayed by RevContent adware, then you will be redirected to sites that sell brain pills, diet supplements, and diabetes “drugs” that aren’t evaluated by the FDA. You also access get-rich-quick schemes and work-at-home offers (like The Tesler) that, at best, are deceptive, and at worst lead to people being scammed out of hundreds of dollars.
Distribution Methods of RevContent adware
Unwanted installation
You can get infected with RevContent adware simply by downloading and installing free software from the Internet. I.e. when you download and install some media player, PDF generator, or any random free application, there is a chance that RevContent adware (such as a browser hijacker) will be downloaded alongside and installed behind your back. To avoid this happening, don’t download software from unreliable websites and aways pay high attention to the installation process of freeware.
RevContent adware is not very dangerous as long as you don’t click on any of those advertisements displayed by RevContent but it can be a difficult thing to do since those advertisements cover almost all space on your screen and you can do it simply accidentally. So if you want to avoid cybersecurity problems, get rid of this adware. Review your installed programs and browser extensions and delete the suspicious items.
Delete adware
Since it’s much easier to do this automatically, we recommend you to use an anti-malware app, such as Spyhunter for PC, Combo Cleaner for Mac, and others. Install it and then run a full scan of all files stored on your hard drive. One of these applications should immediately detect suspicious and malicious itesms. You can use other anti-malware applications of your choice as well.
If you want, you can get rid of RevContent adware manually. We have developed a step-by-step RevContent manual removal guide to assist you. Scroll down below this article and take a look at it. Try to complete all steps correctly and you will be able to eliminate RevContent manually by your own.
Avoid unwanted ads
Removing RevContent adware (browser hijackers and other programs that use RevContent ads to make money) does not stop RevContent ads from showing on other sites that post them. Just remember – if you notice the “RevContent” label, it’s an ad. No matter how intriguing the headline is, remember that it’s almost never accurate. All those links are trying to sell you something. Clicking on them would only waste your time.
If you wanted to stop seeing RevContent ads altogether, you’d need to use an ad-blocker or an anti-malware program and block RevContent and other clickbait/advertising addresses. Make sure you know how to block notifications (browser pop-up messages from websites).
