Safelyprotection.club Redirects - How to remove

Search.safelyprotection.club is an ad-supported extension for the Chrome browser. You might have installed it after visiting safelyonline.net or another dishonest website. This hijacker can redirect the searches from going to your default search website, which looks like being randomly directed to Yahoo. safelyprotection.club can be difficult to spot in action, as the name of that site only flashes for a moment before you land on Yahoo.

A browser hijacker is an unwanted and potentially dangerous piece of software that modifies your browser settings without permission. Usually, the goal is to direct you to certain websites and monetize that, but a hijacked browser can be much more dangerous, After all, you use it for online banking and shopping. Malicious extensions can steal passwords, mine currency, use your device for click fraud, and they can quickly infect hundreds of thousands of browses. Luckily, safelyprotection.club is not that dangerous.

Although companies have been trying to curb malware for years, the official stores still host harmful and malicious apps, extensions, and add-ons. The most dangerous ones might get discovered and removed, but safelyprotection.club and others like it sometimes remain functional for years, taking up space in thousands of browsers of people who don’t know how to uninstall them.

Behavior of safelyprotection.club

We have already written about another Safely extension: PDF Converter. Traditionally, a company that makes hijacker extensions develops a large number of very similar products, which is why there are so many hijackers out there, and Safely seems to be developing its own library. Besides safelyprotection.club, Safely has other extensions that all promise to do something similar: protect you online.

Safelyprotection.club was advertised as helping detect the safety of websites, control how other sites see and track me online, and to filter unsafe products. However, it didn’t look like it was doing anything to protect me online. I went to a few malicious websites with it installed, and it just said that “this website is safe”, so that’s not very useful. Why keep it installed then?

Indeed, it’s easy to forget about safelyprotection.club being installed at all. To accept the redirections form your address bar as the new reality. That shouldn’t happen. If you’re using an extension with your browser, that extension should be useful somehow. Otherwise, it’s just freeloading, logging your activities, and earning money from advertisers. So many ads are put into the search results that, sometimes, the whole screen is filled with them.

According to the privacy policy of safelyprotection.club, personal information of the users (you) is shared with advertisers. This is normal: some browser hijacker developers are really just advertising companies who needed an audience for their ads.

How to avoid hijackers?

Be skeptical of everything online. Hijackers are generally distributed with the help of malicious programs and advertisements which sneak infected files into your system using manipulation, betting on your carelessness.

Malicious programs can be downloaded and installed unwittingly by being included with another program that you downloaded. The lack of proper disclosure in these cases is why bundling is so disliked. If safelyprotection.club simply showed up on your browser, it might have also been installed as a result of bundling. Did you maybe install another extension around that time?

Malvertising can also result in malware infecting your computer, but most viruses need you to do something for them, such as run a file or enable macros on a document. If safelyprotection.club was installed by some virus, then the virus had to already be infecting your machine, which is a bit unsettling, but fixable.
