Mein Email Center is a browser hijacker targeted at German speakers. It is a browser extension that promises to help people access their email. Instead, it focuses on showing ads and manipulating searches. Mein Email Center uses Search.meinemailzentrum.com to take over the new tab pages of the affected browsers. If Search.meinemailzentrum.com appears on your screen, you can stop it by removing Mein Email Center and other bad browser extensions.

Problems with Search.meinemailzentrum.com
Browser hijacking
Search.meinemailzentrum.com was created by Eightpoint Technologies. This company has released a great number of browser extensions already – Email Pro Hub, My Email Checker, Access My Email Tab, Check My Email Tab, and many others. But Mein Email Center is different – it’s in German.
Eightpoint’s extensions are adware because they exist to show ads to their users. They prioritize it over everything, including good user experience. These extensions are also browser hijackers – they take over the browser’s new tab and search box to take control over the browsing and to be able to spy on the user.
Mein Email Center, once installed, replaces the new tab page on the browser with Search.meinemailzentrum.com. It displays ads (for Amazon and other sites), links to affiliated sites (Mynewswire.co, Nationalweatheragency.org, other sites that are mostly made up of ads), and a search box that only goes to one search site that was chosen by Eightpoint – Yahoo.com.
Meinemailzentrum.com also pushes users to install search hijackers Hide My History and My Search Finder. These extensions, unlike Mein Email Center, repace your default search engine. They take over your address box.
Together, Search.meinemailzentrum.com and the search hijackers can take over the browser completely.
Lack of features
Search.meinemailzentrum.com, according to Mein Email Center’s description, is supposed to help users log in to their email accounts. And it does have a toolbar with a list of links to a few different email providers. If your isn’t among them, you’re out of luck – Search.meinemailzentrum.com can’t help.
A row of quick links to important websites? Sounds like bookmarks. You can freely add and remove websites to and from your list of bookmarks without Search.meinemailzentrum.com, though. Does it offer anything else?
Only ads and links to affiliated sites:
- Pop-ups and new tabs with weather forecasts and daily offers for various products.
- Notification pop-ups.
- Search redirects to Yahoo or another search site, often with a few too many ads in the search results.
There is zero justification for Search.meinemailzentrum.com replacing your new tab. That doesn’t help it deliver its “features”. The email links could be in an extension pop-up and that would be more convenient for everyone.
The only reason why Search.meinemailzentrum.com is the way it is is to deliver advertisement and read the user’s browsing history.
How to remove Search.meinemailzentrum.com
I saw at least five versions of Mein Email Center on the Chrome Web Store, all offered by “gcstoreextensions” followed by a number. Search.meinemailzentrum.com has thousands of users on Chrome, not to mention the other browsers, like Safari. (The other extensions offered by Meinemailzentrum.com have over two hundred thousand and over a million users.)
So, it is entirely possible that multiple versions of Mein Email Center are installed on your browser. Be careful when removing extensions so that you don’t accidentally leave hijackers installed.
You can use an anti-malware program, such as Spyhunter for Windows, Combo Cleaner for macOS, and others. Browser extensions related to Mein Email Center get flagged by scanners, as you can see on this Virustotal.com page.
And if unwanted notifications keep popping up on your screen, check your notification settings. Blocking notifications is a separate thing from uninstalling browser extension.
