Problems with Search.searchsinfo.com
It makes unwanted changes to web browsers
Search.searchsinfo.com is a website that includes a search field and links to its privacy policy and terms of service. Using the search box on leads to Yahoo.com, a legitimate search site that is often used by search hijackers.
The site is related to the Search Info browser extension. Remove the extension, check your settings, and Search.searchsinfo.com will disappear. After all, it does nothing useful. In fact, it’s a little harmful:
- It restricts how you can search the web.
- It takes away new tab features like background pictures and custom links.
- It fails to encrypt your search traffic.
All this means that your web browsing is less private and more restricted for as long as Search.searchsinfo.com is in your browser. At best, it’s frustrating and hurts your productivity. At worst, it causes redirects to unwanted sites and opens unsafe webpages.
It gets installed without permission
No useful features offered by Search.searchsinfo.com means that it’s not installed for its value to users. Instead, it might be included with other programs and installed as an optional offer.
Programs that install other programs without warning you usually do this for advertising. Tools like InstallCore download and include promoted software in installers in such a way that you might allow them on without realizing.
Some antivirus programs can recognize adware bundles and warn you about them. But since they’re not outright malicious (as frustrating as Search.searchsinfo.com is, it’s not actually dangerous), not all antivirus tools flag them. To protect yourself, it’s recommended to use an anti-malware tool that’s sensitive to PUPs (potentially unwanted programs). You’ll have to deal with more security warnings, but you’ll also be safer.
Search.searchsinfo.com might also be advertised online. Search Info is made by Polarity and we’ve seen many browser hijackers by this company advertised online. The ads are often a bit misleading and they sometimes lead straight into the installation of another extension.
It’s recommended to check your device for other potentially unwanted programs and browser add-ons.
How to remove Search.searchsinfo.com
Uninstall Search Info and related extensions. The instructions for this can be found in the following section. Manually removing extensions is as simple as going into your browser settings.
There can be problems – some hijackers are more persistent than others. If you can’t remove some of your installed extensions, like if the “Remove” button just doesn’t work, read the post on removing extensions that were “Installed by enterprise policy”.
In addition, check your computer for adware and other malware with antivirus programs, like Spyhunter for Windows, Combo Cleaner for macOS, and others. If any files or programs are flagged as being malicious, suspicious, or potentially unwanted, consider deleting them. Bundlers might smuggle in programs that are difficult to notice once they’re installed, such as RelevantKnowledge.
Review your browser settings – your default search engine and your new tab page. With no browser hijackers, you are in control of these settings. You can also customize your new tab page to make it much better than Search.searchsinfo.com, Search.searchutilities.co, Hlogincenter.co, and other browser hijackers.
