SearchConverterInc is a malicious browser add-on that hijacks your internet search. It also collects your web browsing data and it can display ads on your screen. There’re no useful features offered by this extension, so it’s recommended to remove it as soon as you discover it.
It’s not always obvious that SearchConverterInc is installed – the main effect of this hijacker is that your search results are delivered by an unexpected website. But you can see SearchConverterInc in your list of installed add-ons.

What is SearchConverterInc?
Search hijacker
SearchConverterInc is a browser extension – a little app that gets installed on browsers. It’s related to the website Searchconverterinc.com
Extensions are supposed to offer cool new features or change browser settings in helpful ways. For instance, dark mode extensions help you change the color schemes of all websites and price comparison extensions help you find where to find the cheapest items.
SearchConverterInc, though, doesn’t do anything that could be seen as useful. In fact, it removes features by restricting certain settings.
When SearchConverterInc is installed, it takes over the default search engine of the browser. Normally, users can choose between Google, Bing, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo, and Ecosia, as well as an option to choose any website you want. SearchConverterInc sets Feed.searchconverterinc.com as the default, which means that it can control which site shows your search results.
Indeed, SearchConverterInc’s description on the Chome Web store says that, though in a nicer way:
This product lets you browse the web and get easy access to search, images, videos and news.
Usually, SearchConverterInc leads to Yahoo.
A spy
SearchConverterInc is also not great for your privacy. It logs lots of user data:
- search queries,
- browsing history,
- your location,
- your language settings and other technical data.
Some of this data is not accessible to websites that you visit. Browser extensions are uniquely able to track your data – and they sometimes misuse it by sharing it with third parties (Browser extensions collect and sell data with almost no oversight).
Installed without permission
SearchConverterInc doesn’t get installed by users intentionally. Instead, it tricks people into allowing it on their computers.
It might be distributed by being bundled with free programs. But it often appears in deceptive ads online. It’s advertised by fake extension recommendations, download pages, and other misleading ads. You’re most likely to encounter these ads on file hosting sites, free movie sites – controversial sites, in short.
Another thing about SearchConverterInc is that it’s only one in a family of search hijackers, together with Nuzzero, NetGameSearch, and others.
How to remove SearchConverterInc
Remove browser add-ons that you don’t want to be installed. It should be very simple – you can just open the main menu of your browser, go into Settings, click on Extensions, and find all the add-ons that you have installed with the option to see more details. You can disable extensions if you’re not sure about them or remove them right away.
I recommend removing SearchConverterInc, as it’s bad for privacy and offers no useful features – all it does is take away your ability to control your search engine.
I can think of some problems that could arise with removing SearchConverterInc. The main one is that there’s no “Remove” button. In this case, Enterprise policy hijackers might have installed SearchConverterInc.
Another possible issue is that SearchConverterInc returns after being removed. This could be a browser syncing issue or an issue with some lingering malware on your device.
Scan your computer with an antivirus app. Combo Cleaner for macOS, Spyhunter for Windows, Malwarebytes, and others. It’s good to have an anti-malware app protecting your computer, as they can help you avoid other such infections by blocking malicious websites and apps.
Searchconverterinc.com sometimes asks people to subscribe to its ads. Check your notification settings and stop all unwanted notifications.
- Chrome – open Settings, scroll down to Site settings (under Privacy and security), click on Notifications.
- Edge (Chromium) – open Settings, click Site Permissions, Notifications.
- Firefox – open Settings, Privacy & Security, scroll down to Permissions, and click on Settings next to Notifications.
- Safari – in the Safari menu, choose Preferences, Websites, Notifications.
