ShopAtHome.com virus - How to remove

ShopAtHome.com virus is one more adware program that displays pop up messages with coupons and sponsored links. The application is installed to random computers bundled with free software that you can get from the Internet. Once inside, it shows a bunch of messages when you are visiting Google, Facebook, Amazon and similar pages.

If you click on the message with some offer you will be rerouted to an unknown website. This is how ShopAtHome.com virus makes money – by taking users to the pages which pay for every click. Basically, it tries to increase traffic of such sites and although the adware is not malicious itself, it causes very annoying consequences. Even though some users may think, it is useful to see various offers and get discounts while shopping, most of people get irritated pretty soon because of regular appearance of ads.

ShopAtHome.com is a browser extension that can be added to Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome browsers. If you want to avoid this, you should be more careful when you are downloading free programs, like video players, PDF creators and so on. Do not skip the steps of installation and instead follow each of it to see it they contain any additional programs bundled. If so, refuse installing any unknown ones.

ShopAtHome will hijack your search. It will use the domain rsearch.shopathome.com for searches, which is advertisement-supported. The results are powered by yahoo search engine at the moment. 

Remove ShopAtHome.com virus if you have already noticed its activity on your computer. Go to Control Panel -> Add and Remove programs list and uninstall it from there. You should also check browser extensions for Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome and remove it from there. If you do not see it listed, you should use antimalware tools like SpyHunter and scan your computer with it. If you had redirecting issues, you might need to reset your home page and search engine to the one you used before:

On Internet explorer:

1. Click on the arrow on the right of a search box;
2. Do the following: on IE8-9 choose ‘Manage Search providers’, on IE7 click ‘Change search defaults’;
3. Remove ShopAtHome.com and Rakuten Loyalty Toolbar from the list.

On Firefox :

1. Enter “about:addons” in url bar. Remove Rakuten Loyalty Toolbar from Extensions / Addons;
2. Enter “about:config” in url bar. This will open settings page;
3. Type “Keyword.url” in the search box. Right click it & reset it;
4. Type “browser.search.defaultengine” in the search box. Right click it & reset it;
5. Type “browser.search.selectedengine” in the search box. Right click it & reset it;
6. Search for ‘browser.newtab.url’. Right-click and reset. This will make sure that the search page won’t launch on every new tab.

On Google Chrome:

1. Enter chrome://extensions. Remove Rakuten Loyalty Toolbar from extensions list. 
2. Click 3 horizontal lines icon on browser toolbar;
3. Select Settings;
4. Select Basics ->Manage Search engines;
5. Remove unnecessary search engines from list;
6. Go back to settings. On Startup choose open blank page ( you can remove undesired pages from the set pages link too).
