Simple Malware Protector is itself malware, despite its name. This program is considered to be malicious by multiple antivirus programs. When it scans a computer, it shows misleading scan results. It runs itself and it periodically shows notifications. Its goal is to get people to pay for its full version.

Is Simple Malware Protector dangerous?
Simple Malware Protector is flagged by antivirus scanners
Simple Malware Protector is a malware scanner by Simplestar Software. It offers to protect your computer from security threats and vulnerabilities.
But some antivirus vendors consider it to be unsafe. In fact, when I downloaded the free version of Simple Malware Protector, it was flagged by more than a dozen reputable antivirus programs. The installer gets labels like Trojan and Malicious: Virustotal.com.
As expected, the executable does marginally better, but it’s still not great. Antivirus programs call it Unwanted and PUP (potentially unwanted program): Virustotal.com.
Problems with PUPs
Simple Malware Protector is considered to be a potentially unwanted program (PUP). It is not the sort of malware that would steal files or install backdoors. It’s a mild threat, but should still be taken seriously. After all, this number of detections by antivirus tools is no joke.
Here are some of the possible reasons why Simple Malware Protector is considered to be unsafe to use:
- It pressures users to buy its full version when they might not want it or need it.
- Its user interface creates an unnecessary sense of urgency.
- Simple Malware Protector creates scheduled tasks to show regular notifications. It also sets itself up to run on its own.
- It might install potentially unwanted browser add-ons.
For whatever reason, when Simple Malware Protector asks you to register it to get the full version, it calls itself “Winzip Malware Protector”. It could be that the programs share their user interface, which is something very common for smaller commercial programs and especially for iffy antivirus tools and PC optimizers. For instance, many PCVARK programs (Auto System Speedup, One Click Speedup, etc.) used to have the exact same UI as each other.
How to delete Simple Malware Protector
You can uninstall Simple Malware Protector normally, but there are a few concerns:
- Simple Malware Protector might leave behind a few files that should be deleted.
- Other potentially unsafe programs might have been installed with it and also need to be deleted.
I’ve had some scammy “security” programs leave behind files after uninstalling them. Those files would cause regular pop-up ads in the lower right corner of the screen.
And some malicious and dishonest programs get installed in little bundles. It’s important to check your most recently installed apps to make sure you’re not letting some junkware stay installed on your device.
Simple Malware Protector may also install a browser extension, so check your extensions and remove unwanted items.
It’s helpful to use an actual antivirus program, such as Spyhunter, Malwarebytes, or another. They can scan your computer, find suspicious and malicious items, warn you about them, and delete them.
Simple Malware Protector has a free version and a paid version. The paid version uses a subscription model. If you bought Simple Malware Protector and then decided to stop using it, remember to cancel the subscription. If you want a refund, check Simplestar’s refund policy.

How to remove Simple Malware Protector using Windows Control Panel
Many hijackers and adware like Simple Malware Protector install some of their components as regular Windows programs as well as additional software. This part of malware can be uninstalled from the Control Panel. To access it, do the following.- Start→Control Panel (older Windows) or press Windows Key→Search and enter Control Panel and then press Enter (Windows 8, Windows 10).
- Choose Uninstall Program (if you don't see it, click in the upper right next to "View by" and select Category).
- Go through the list of programs and select entries related to Simple Malware Protector . You can click on "Name" or "Installed On" to reorder your programs and make Simple Malware Protector easier to find.
- Click the Uninstall button. If you're asked if you really want to remove the program, click Yes.
- In many cases anti-malware programs are better at detecting related parasites, thus I recommend installing Spyhunter to identify other programs that might be a part of this infection.
