What is Sonoffer.online?
It is an ad spammer
Sonoffer.online is a website. It’s pretty empty – it has almost no content. And yet, it is advertised online.
Sonoffer.online is promoted with pop-up ads on file download sites, pirating sites, video streaming sites, etc. It appears in a new browser tab and, usually, says that you have to “Click Allow” to get past it.
Just like other “Press allow to continue” sites, Sonoffer.online lies to visitors. For instance, it says that you must subscribe to its notifications (click the “Allow” button) to prove that you are not a robot.
You don’t, really. In fact, you should ignore Sonoffer.online if it appears on your screen. Like other similar sites, such as Robotcaptcha7.info or Thehugefeed.com, all that Sonoffer.online wants is for you to allow its notifications so that it can use them to deliver ads.
In other words, Sonoffer.online is an advertisement spammer. When it shows the notification prompt and you click the “Allow” button on it, this gives it access to your browser. Sonoffer.online uses it to deliver advertisements in the form of little pop-ups on your screen.
Notifications being misused is a common enough problem that browser developers have taken notice. But still, many abusive sites exist out there, hijacking browsers and spamming them with ads.
It shows dangerous ads
Once Sonoffer.online has access to your notifications, it can use it to display advertisements. These ads are unwanted, but there’s another problem – some of them may also be dangerous:
- ads for potentially unwanted software, fake antivirus programs, even tech support scams,
- links to fake surveys and giveaways that lead to subscription scams and phishing sites,
- ads for browser hijackers and adware bundles,
- online casinos and gambling sites.
Not all ads displayed by Sonoffer.online are like this; many of them are for safe sites and products. But still, enough of the ads are problematic that it’s a potential security problem. It would be good for your security to block Sonoffer.online’s notifications in order to stop its ads.
How to stop Sonoffer.online ad spam
Block sites from sending notifications
Sonoffer.online delivers its ads via web push notifications, which can be managed in your browser settings.
For example, as an ad from Sonoffer.online comes, you can click on the “Site settings” button or the little gear icon to manage notifications. You can block all future notifications from the site.
Or you can also go into your browser settings. This would be better, as Sonoffer.online has lots of random subdomains, like clffh.sonoffer.online and dxgzg.sonoffer.online. They might have separate entries in your browser’s notification settings – they also need to be blocked separately:
- Chrome – open Settings, scroll down to Site settings (under Privacy and security), click on Notifications.
- Edge (Chromium) – open Settings, click Site Permissions, Notifications.
- Firefox – open Settings, Privacy & Security, scroll down to Permissions, and click on Settings next to Notifications.
- Safari – in the Safari menu, choose Preferences, Websites, Notifications.
Besides removing Sonoffer.online from your list of sites whose notifications are allowed, check the other settings – you might want to disable notification prompts completely. This way, other notification hijackers would find it almost impossible to promote themselves.
Find and remove malware
Finally, check your device with a good anti-malware tool, such as Combo Cleaner for macOS, Spyhunter for Windows, and others. Remove malicious items if any are found.
Consider using an anti-malware program that has a web filter. This could help you avoid malicious advertisements in the future, which would help you stay safe online.
