Streamsbros.com is a search redirect site that appears in your browser if you happen to install the StreamsBros extension. Streamsbros.com takes your search queries and redirects them to whatever site it wants (usually, Yahoo). It can be considered adware and a browser hijacker.

Search engines are sites that search the internet. Google.com is a popular one, Bing.com is another. They take your query and return relevant results (plus, a couple of ads at the top and bottom of the page).

Streamsbros.com is a fake search engine. With the StreamsBros extension installed, your browser is forced to send your search terms (the stuff you type into your address bar that is not a site address) to Streamsbros.com – unless you specifically open your search site (such as Bing.com) first.

Why does Streamsbros.com do this? To make money from your traffic. Streamsbros.com’s operators get paid for directing traffic (us, internet users) to certain websites.

Meanwhile, you lose control over your search engine settings. At least, until StreamsBros is removed.

Notifications

Streamsbros.com may ask you to allow its notifications during its installation. If you allow them, you might see pop-ups from Streamsbros.com on your screen.

History tracking

Like other browser hijackers (and many commercial browser extensions, honestly), StreamsBros reads your browsing history and your search queries. According to Streamsbros.com’s privacy policy, your search logs, which links you clicked on, which pages you visited, your language, your operating system, and other data may be collected. And it’s not considered to be personal information by Streamsbros.com.

How StreamsBros got installed

I’ve seen hijackers like Streamsbros.com before, such as Streambrossearch.com, Allmoviessearch.com, Streams-search.com, and others. They always seem to use these deceptive pop-up ads that encourage you to download something without explaining clearly what it is.

 

You may land on Streamsbros.com and install StreamsBros without really noticing that you’re installing a random browser extension. These ads imply that you must install this app or that extension.

You are most likely to find these pop-ups on torrenting and streaming websites. These ads are supposed to trick people into believing that they’re real warnings by the streaming site. For example, you might think “Oh, I have to install this thing to watch my videos”.

Streamsbros.com’s ads don’t look like typical ads. They can easily cause such misunderstandings – and it’s probably intentional. Such ads work the same as fake download buttons.
