There are several reasons why you might be experiencing this fake pop-up message. We have covered the topic in our article about excessive pop-ups and “System Warning” message is a beautiful example of such malware. However, it might be that your computer is not even infected and you are exposed to this notification only because you have visited a website that displays this particular message.
One way or another, you should check your computer with professional anti-malware software to make sure that it is not infected with a malicious browser extension. In this post, we will talk about common features of “System Warning” Popup and also provide you with most effective methods to stop them.
How System Warning pop-up Access Your Computer
The “System Warning” Popup is an item of false advertising displayed by the rogue anti-spyware program System Protector. While it may seem like a legitimate Windows warning message, this popup is merely a means to trick the user into thinking he is infected and in need of the “full version” of System Protector.
The pop-up reads:
System warning: Intercepting programs that may compromise your privacy and harm your system have been detected on your PC. Click here to remove them immediately with the latest version of System Protector.
The popup itself is not very harmful if you do not click on it, yet it is caused by Trojan, therefore, it is better to remove it as soon as noticed. The “System Warning” Popup only advertises a rogue antivirus called System Protector. Clicking on it would download and install the fake application automatically.
System Protector would cause much more harm to your computer, such as launching itself automatically, hijacking your Internet browser, blocking your computer security programs, displaying fake notifications and even slowing down your PC significantly. On top of that, it will constantly keep warning that your system is at risk because of numerous infections and other issues. This is what rogue really is – they only seek to scare you and make you buy something that isn’t really needed.
In some cases, “System Warning” popup suggests calling some number to reach Help Support and get your system fixed. You should never do that either as most likely cybercriminals will try to convince you to purchase some useless or even dangerous application. If you don’t want to lose your money and create even more issues on your computer, avoid that at all cost. Remember that “System Warning” popup does not reflect the actual situation of your computer. It was designed by cyber criminals to rip computer users off.
Again, it might be that you simply have visited a malicious website that displays this excessive pop-up advertisement and your computer is not in danger. In this case, you should immediately leave the website and never come back.
We recommend to monitor those advertisements – if you are seeing it constantly and it is not something that happened just once, your computer is probably infected. Also, the domain displaying this advertisement is system-warning-message.com.
How “System Warning” Managed to Infect Your Computer
As already mentioned, the adware that is responsible for “System Warning” popup is installed together with various freeware. You should be more careful with the installations of free players, download managers, PDF creators and similar tools. It is arguably the most common method to distribute malware like this – COMPUTER BLOCKED, Google Chrome Critical ERROR, Your Battery Is Damaged By Viruses and other similar infections are also distributed bundled with freeware.
Make sure you always opt for Custom installation mode and follow each step very carefully. In case you see any attempts to add an extra program that look unfamiliar to you, make sure you do not allow them to be installed. Most of the potentially unwanted programs are a result of not following installation steps of your freeware and not caring much about what you agree to add to your computer.
Do not trust this “System Warning” pop up under any circumstance. Also remove System Protector immediately if you have decided to follow that “System Warning” popup says. The best thing is to perform a full system scan using a reputable antivirus software. It will detect and eliminate the infection as well as the Trojan that brought it in. The adware that causes “System Warning” popup can be also removed with an anti-malware program or manually. Manual removal guide is provided below this article.
In case you have failed to perform manual removal or you want to do it faster and easier – download Spyhunter and scan your computer with either one of those applications. It should detect and immediately remove the malware from your computer in no time. It will also protect your computer from similar threats in the future, so keep it installed.
