TinyChill Redirects - How to remove

TinyChill.com is a site that’s opened by the TinyChill browser extension. TinyChill gets installed by people who fall for its deceptive ads: ads that insist that TinyChill is required to watch a video, download a file, or continue browsing a page. Once installed, TinyChill changes your browser’s search settings so that every time you search the internet using the address box, Yahoo.com opens.

TinyChill is useless

TinyChill is made by Webcoapps, just like Searchsio, LivePDFConverter, RunSpeedCheck, and other browser extensions. These extensions also make your browser open Yahoo when searching for something.

TinyChill has some functionality on Portal.TinyChill.com. There’s a PDF converter, a currency converter that doesn’t work, a crypto converter, a calculator that doesn’t work with the keyboard, and a bookmark-like link saver that does not work. But if we read TinyChill’s description in the Chrome Web Store, it’s presented as an app that just changes your search to Yahoo, so maybe you’re not even supposed to see this page.

Overall, TinyChill is entirely useless and unhelpful. There’s no reason to install it. But people still do, because of the deceptive ads.

TinyChill gets installed unfairly

TinyChill is advertised on various free streaming sites, file download sites, and paid URL shorteners that streaming and download sites use. Basically, if you pirate at all, you risk being exposed to the deceptive ads used by TinyChill.

TinyChill ads appear alongside weird investment scheme ads, notification spammers, betting and gambling ads, alternative search engines, and other browser hijackers. Such dangerous and low-quality ads do usually show up on illegal sites. It does not reflect well on TinyChill to advertise this way.

Basically, unexpected pop-ups and redirects go to Install.TinyChill.com, which has an obvious download button. Some people click it on reflex, others believe that they’re being asked to install TinyChill to continue browsing and so they do. TinyChill ads use templates that are widely used by multiple malicious browser extensions and they seem to be pretty effective, unfortunately.

TinyChill gets installed by a "Download Ready" page.

You probably can’t install TinyChill normally. You wouldn’t, just based on its description. Besides, I can’t find the TinyChill extension by searching normally. You need a direct link to even open it.

Also, TinyChill.com does ask you to allow its notifications. If you do, it may start sending unwanted pop-up ads into your browser.

How to avoid browser hijackers

Catch yourself if you’re about to download or install something you don’t really know. TinyChill is a bad browser extension that profits from controlling your search habits, so even though it’s not all that bad, there’s absolutely no reason to use it. And if you accumulate multiple hijackers and potentially unwanted programs, your computer could actually slow down a little.

TinyChill has a few red flags to watch out for:

  • First, check other users’ reviews:
In the Chrome store, there is one five-star rating and zero reviews from the thousands of users. This indicates that TinyChill’s users don’t know that they have this extension or are not using it intentionally.
  • Next, check the developer’s reputation:
Webcoapps is mentioned in the Chrome store page. Googling its name, there’s no functional website and scam-checking sites pop up in the results – not good. Meanwhile, Portal.TinyChill.com provides only an address. Searching for this exact address (just put it in quotes) returns an endless list of browser hijackers and other malware ranging from Linkury to Any Search Manager – that’s very bad.
  • Finally, check the permissions:
TinyChill asks to change your search settings and read your data. What is this useful for? Certainly not the user.

TinyChill reads your data after it changes your default search.

How to remove TinyChill

You can uninstall browser extensions quite easily: it’s enough to right-click on its icon (you can find them to the right od the address bar in your browser – if they’re not visible, move your mouse until you see a two-sided arrow cursor). Right-clicking on the offending extension’s icon opens a drop-down menu which includes a “Remove” option.

You can also enter browser settings to get a better view of all the browser extensions that you have installed.

And you may want to scan your computer with an anti-malware tool, such as Combo Cleaner for macOS, Spyhunter for Windows, Malwarebytes, etc. If you visited potentially unsafe sites and downloaded files from them, it’s worth checking that you didn’t download any malware.

If removing TinyChill doesn’t fix the redirects, check your default search settings. Is your normal search engine set there? Is yet another browser extension controlling it? If you can’t remove TinyChill and you’re sure there’s no malware on your device, check this article on what to do about malware abusing enterprise policy.
