Ultra Movies Search is a potentially unwanted browser extension that changes your default search settings to Movie.ultraaps.online, which opens Yahoo. With Ultra Movies Search installed, any time you search the internet, Yahoo delivers the results. If you don’t want that to happen or if you don’t remember installing Ultra Movies Search, you can easily remove it and get back control of your browser settings. You should decide what search engine you want to use.

What is Ultra Movies Search
A browser is a program that you use to access websites, like to read this article. And a browser extension, like what Ultra Movies Search is, is a little modification to a browser – an add-on that changes some browser functions, like the background color of certain webpages, your home and new tab pages, or your default search engine.
Browser add-ons then have some control over your browser. Ultra Movies Search, for example, takes over your address bar and won’t let you change that in the settings. It can also display notification pop-ups on your screen.
Ultra Movies Search isn’t so much dangerous as it is annoying. Its creators want to make money, so they spread Ultra Movies Search, which hijacks people’s searches and redirects them to affiliated and promoted sites, netting Ultra Movies Search’s makers a bit of money each time. But you, the user, don’t really get anything out of this. Ultra Movies Search promises to help you discover movie and TV show trailers, which it kind of does with an extension pop-up, but all that it does is open a Getmedia site. You may as well just save it as a favorite and access it that way.
Removing Ultra Movies Search
If you want to control your browser’s default search engine, you’ll have to disable or remove from your browser all the extensions that have taken control of that setting. If you use Google Chrome, you can see all of your extensions by:
- opening your browser,
- pressing the three-dot button on the top right,
- choosing Settings,
- clicking on Extensions in the column on the left.
Click on the Details button on each extension’s card and scroll down to Permissions. Permissions let us know approximately what an extension can do and help us weed out bad extensions. Ultra Movies Search has permission to “Change your search settings”.
Another way to check for browser hijackers is to open your browser settings and then click on the Search engine option on the left of the screen. There will be info on the search engine used in the address bar. Which browser extension is controlling that setting?
To remove Ultra Movies Search, open the extension screen and then click the remove button on Ultra Movies Search’s card. Do the same for all browser extensions that you don’t use or don’t trust. More detailed instructions are at the bottom of this post, in the last section.
Scan your computer with an antivirus program (Combo Cleaner for Mac, Spyhunter for PC, etc.). Antivirus and anti-malware programs can find dangerous programs on your computer and tell you. Then, you can decide if you want to remove them. It’s advised to get rid of malware to avoid problems like annoying pop-up ads and stolen personal information.
How Ultra Movies Search infects browsers
Ultra Movies Search over one hundred thousand users on the Chrome Web Store (but only two reviews). And yet, I said that its functionality didn’t offer users anything valuable. The same is true for Ultra Sports Search, nJoyMovies, MixMovie, and other related browser extensions.
I believe that Ultra Movies Search is most often installed without users’ informed consent and that people are tricked into installing Ultra Movies Search by deceptive ads. And that they don’t know why or how their default search engine became Yahoo.
Ultra Movies Search ads are hosted on sites like Gsafe.getawesome2.com. The ads pop up on video and music converter sites like Y2mate and on URL shorteners like Flvto. When you’re downloading some files (that may or may not be pirated), you may encounter lots of pop-up ads. These ads have words like “Step 1”, “Continue”, and “Agree” that make it seem like you must agree if you are to get your files. But really, these are just random pop-up ads.
When a site asks you to install a browser extension to continue browsing, to download a file, to connect to Wi-fi, or to see the results of a search, it’s probably a scam. Sites do this to trick people into installing a bad extension that then hijacks the browser.
Many people use their browsers to do online shopping and banking, so it’s important to only install good-quality extensions and avoid any that are potentially dangerous.
