Ultra Sports Search is a browser extension that hijacks your search engine (changes it to Yahoo) in order to advertise to you. In theory, Ultra Sports Search is supposed to give you easy access to sport TV channels, but that aspect of the extension is nothing but links to some streaming sites.

How the extension gets installed
The Ultra Sports Search extension is advertised in sports streams and various half-legal websites, and possibly installed with free programs that bundle it.
Free streaming sites and video converter sites might show ads for Ultra Sports Search. Often the ads are intrusive – pop-ups, redirects that come out of nowhere. Sports streams especially tend do redirect users to Ultra Sports Search’s installation site. Sometimes with the implication that if the user doesn’t install the extension, they won’t be able to continue watching the streams. Gsafe.getawesome2.com and similar sites deliver the ads. Adware viruses might also show pop-ups for Ultra Sports Search and other unwanted extensions in your browser.
There is also the possibility that Ultra Sports Search is bundled with some free programs and made available online. Downloading and installing such a program using default settings would additionally install a few browser hijackers and other potentially unwanted programs. That’s what bundlers do – install software that you might not have wanted, often dubious adware-like applications.
What is Ultra Sports Search
Ultra Sports Search’s description in the Chrome Web Store says that the extension is for finding sports channels and setting Yahoo as your default search site:
Get easy access to sport channels. This extension makes Yahoo! your default search engine.
In reality, Ultra Sports Search sets sport.ultraapps.online as your browser’s default search engine. What this means is that, when you search for something on the internet using your address bar in the browser, that’s the website where your search queries are sent. That website controls where your search results come from. If Ultra Sports Search’s developers changed the sport.ultraapps.online website, that would change your search website, too.
When you type ‘s’ in the address bar before your query, then a getmedia website delivers your results – this is supposed to be how you search for sports-related topics. It’s clumsy but doing it this way – from the address bar – does allow Ultra Sports Search’s developers to justify hijacking your search engine.
Ultra Sports Search looks similar to MixSportTV, iSportTV, and Sports Score – other search hijackers that pretend to offer sport features. Their and Ultra Sports Search’s features are extremely basic and do not offer anything that you couldn’t do without a browser extension in a few seconds with bookmarks. These browser extensions are not helpful for sports fans.
The real goal of Ultra Sports Search is to display ads based on your browsing habits in your search results. Behavioral advertising is disclosed in Ultra Sports Search’s privacy policy and hijacking your search does allow for your search queries to be read by UltraApps. They can just use that information to show you relevant ads and they make money from showing those ads.
And don’t expect the ads to be safe or very valuable. Considering the misleading tactics that are used to promote Ultra Sports Search, there’s no reason to believe that UltraApps have high standards for the ads that they display.
How to remove Ultra Sports Search
It’s a good idea to scan your computer for malware, malicious scripts, adware viruses, and malicious extensions with an anti-malware program (SpyHunter for PC, Combo Cleaner Mac). The problem with adware viruses is that they get distributed in groups and downloaded from the same websites, so if you have Ultra Sports Search, you might have some other unwanted programs, too.
You can restore your old web search settings if you remove the Ultra Sports Search extension and all the other browser hijackers. Sometimes multiple browser hijackers get installed at once and removing one of them doesn’t solve the problem. If you don’t know which extensions you can trust, you can disable all of your browser extensions and then enable them one-by-one, then check which ones cause problems. And if you don’t use browser extensions, you can just uninstall all of them.
If your browser settings don’t go back to normal after getting rid of Ultra Sports Search and the other hijackers, check your settings – the manual instructions are in the following section.
