VOPackage is classified as an adware and a PUP (potentially unwanted program) due to several malicious activities that it performs. It travels bundled with other free programs and if your computer is infected with VOPackage, probably VuuPC is also installed on your computer because they both was developed by the same publisher and most of the time travels together.
Update of VOPackage adware parasite
VOPackage (often found as PUA.VOPackage) virus was first detected in October of 2014. It was determined to be bundled with third-party software installers or download managers. As soon as it found a way into Windows operating systems, it would add folders in Application Data. In addition, parasite quickly generated entries in Windows Registry to reassure that its software would be auto-executed and ran in the background without getting noticed. The same tactic is used by other ad-based parasites like FiziPop and AVBoost. Security specialists have included this program to the group of potentially unwanted programs (PUPS) (Symantec).
VOPackage virus was also determined to be an ad-based software (Secure List) that renders promotional material and fills computer screens with it. Display of advertisements sometimes becomes unbearable, similarly to the constantly-appearing Go.mobifoth.com pop-up. The only purpose of programs such as VOPackage malware is to collect payments for sponsoring specific services, programs or domains.
Basically, advertising agencies or independent providers pay owners of ad-based programs to promote specific material. For instance, applications like OptiBuy or BeansPlayer have been caught sponsoring parties that supplied disturbing, malware-laden, offensive or in other ways inappropriate ads. In some cases, users might be automatically re-routed to domains, hosting exploit kits. This will mean that if an operating system has some vulnerabilities or bugs (The Conversation), malware infections could take advantage of them. This means that Trojans, worms, browser hijackers, key-loggers and other disturbing malware types could be arriving thanks to successful malvertising plans.
Additional information about this infection
Even though developers of VOPackage promise that it will enhance your browsing experience by providing you with opportunity to connect to all your data using Internet wherever you are, it is not true. Instead of that opportunity you will get a lot of annoying and disturbing pop-p ads on your web browser when surfing the Internet. We do not recommend to click on those ads as they are malicious.
If you do so, you will be immediately redirected to third parties websites that may be infected and do harm to your computer. VOPackage generates web traffic and collects sales leads – they make money this way. It works as a browser extension and can perfectly operate on all most popular web browsers, including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer. Furthermore, it collects your personal data like browsing history, search queries and most visited sites. This data later on is transferred to third parties. They use it to improve their ads according to given information and make them more engaging specifically to you, so the chances that you will click on them rise.
VOPackage is not officially a virus but a lot of users may think that way, because it gets installed without their allowance and awareness. It’s because it is distributed bundled with other free programs. If you download and install some free software from the Internet, might be that VOPackage Will be installed alongside. That being said, you need to be very careful during the installation of freebies.
Do not skip any steps and opt out for a custom or advanced install mode. Read all addition information if you don’t want to end up with VOPackage on your computer. It would be also wise to read all terms and conditions. If you see some additional software that you are not aware of being installed – do not allow it. In case your computer is already infected with VOPackage, we highly recommend to scan it with a trustworthy anti-malware like Spyhunter or malwarebytes.
