WatchMyTVShows is a search hijacker that replaces the homepage on your browser. Although WatchMyTVShows’ ads imply that it can help you watch TV online, it has no such features – only links to other sites. WatchMyTVShows just wants to be installed by as many people as possible and then make them go to MyWay.com to search the internet.

Does WatchMyTVShows help you watch TV shows?
WatchMyTVShows can be downloaded from Watchmytvshows.com. There, it’s presented as a tool to watch free online TV:
It does not do that. Instead, WatchMyTVShows hijacks the browser’s home page and the new tab page, which directs people to various already existing online TV sites. WatchMyTVShows replaces your browser’s default page with a page of its own. This page has a search box in the middle, below that – a few links to sites like ABC, Amazon Prime, and AMC.
Links to preexisting websites that you can find on your own, without WatchMyTVShows. WatchMyTVShows does not do anything helpful or useful. It should not be installed. But it does because it gets people’s hopes up with its dishonest advertising.
Many online streaming sites require paid subscriptions, have a very limited selection, are restricted by the user’s location, etc. People new to online TV sometimes think that there’s a better platform – free, unlimited, and with all of their favorite shows and movies in one place. Unfortunately, that’s not the case and online TV is somewhat comparable to cable TV – increasingly expensive, with each website keeping a tight grip on exclusive streaming rights to favorite shows.
Some people turn to illegal streaming sites, which have a big selection and are free. But pirating wites have huge problems with malicious ads – better stay away if you don’t want to infect your computer with some serious malware.
Browser hijacker
At the end of the day, WatchMyTVShows is just another browser hijacker. A web browser add-on that does little more than promote a certain website, in this case – MyWay.com. MyWay.com is a search engine that has no unique qualities to make it worth using over other, more reputable engines, such as Google. But it is an advertising platform, so it needs more users to be funneled into it.
No wonder then that WatchMyTVShows is made by Mindspark, the same company that developed TelevisionAce, MyTelevisionHQ, TelevisionFanatic, and others – all promoting the same MyWay.com search engine, all lacking useful features.
WatchMyTVShows can not just change your home page/new tab page, read your history, and read your search entries, but also show notifications, which can be annoying. Notifications are used to promote additional products, according to WatchMyTVShows’s description on the Chrome Web Store (the page where the WatchMyTVShows extension is hosted).
How to remove WatchMyTVShows
Find and remove malware with an anti-malware program, such as Combo Cleaner for macOS, Spyhunter for Windows, etc. Most likely, WatchMyTVShows was installed because you:
- downloaded and installed a program that bundled other software, including WatchMyTVShows, with itself,
- visited a shady site and saw an ad for WatchMyTVShows,
- had adware on your computer prior to ever finding WatchMyTVShows, and this adware injected various ads into your browser or hijacked your internet searches.
That last option is very possible, so it’s good to either scan your whole computer with an anti-malware app, or carefully check all the extensions that you have installed.
Below are instructions for removing extensions from all the most popular browsers. Don’t stop with WatchMyTVShows, but check all the extensions that you have. Click the details button to see permissions, look up their reviews, look up the companies behind the extensions.
Block notification pop-ups if you’re getting any. This linked post has info on how to do that.
You could block some malicious and suspicious sites with an ad-blocker or an anti-malware program. That would help you avoid some malware, but there’s really no 100% effective way to avoid getting tricked or infected.
