WeatherBlink Toolbar - How to remove

WeatherBlink Toolbar is an annoying program that can be added to your browser while you are downloading some free programs from the Internet or thanks to some misleading ads. On its official website, the program claims to be a useful tool for tracking your local weather and offering some other features. However, it causes lots of problems when you are trying to browse the Internet, like redirecting and browser settings hijacking. The program is compatible with Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox. Once added, it modifies your browser homepage and might change your default search provider to search.tb.ask.com.

Problems with WeatherBlink

WeatherBlink Toolbar causes tons of advertisements and sponsored links to be displayed on the hijacked browser. If you click on them, you can easily get your system infected with many different dangerous threats. Fake giveaways, tech support scams, and other dangerous content might spread using low-quality ads.

What is more, WeatherBlink Toolbar can monitor your browsing activity, read your browsing history, see what you search for and what you click on. This is not great for your privacy as this data can easily be sent to third parties, as per Ask Applications’ privacy policy. This data about your browsing habits is valuable to advertisers who use it to deliver targeted ads to you – ads that are based on your likes and your profile. While this data is separate from your personal data, it’s still important to be aware of what WeatherBlink is actually doing in your browser (tracking your activity).

Many add-ons have already been released by this company that act the same way WeatherBlink does: a search hijacker covered with a think veil of a useful browser utility. Mindspark, the developer, has released QuickWeatherTracker, QuickWeatherAlert, FreeLocalWeather, and many other extensions.

Creators of WeatherBlink Toolbar are usually bundling it to other programs and other browser extensions. This way they highly increase the distribution of this otherwise unwanted program. Although users are usually able to refuse to install it, quite often they perform the installation without paying much attention to it and forget to deselect options to install additional programs. This way, WeatherBlink Toolbar can be downloaded and installed automatically. Be careful with your installations and you will be able to avoid many potentially unwanted programs.

Then there are all the ads and redirects that offer WeatherBlink in ways that might mislead users into thinking that its installation is required to use some website. They might also be given the impression that it’s not an extension at all. If you find yourself caught in an installation process and you don’t know how to quit, try just closing the browser tab (Cmd+W for Mac OS, Alt+F4 for Windows).

How to remove WeatherBlink

To remove the WeatherBlink Toolbar, just access your browser settings. The specific instructions with screenshots are in the next section. It might also be important to first uninstall any malware if it’s on your computer because it might be preventing WeatherBlink from being removed, or it might redownload the add-on. Just look at the programs and applications that were installed at the same time as WeatherBlink took over your browser. If you use Windows, go to the Control Panel and the “add and remove programs” section, if you have a Mac, just open the Applications folder. Then find suspicious programs, look them up, scan them, and possibly remove them.

You can use any competent antivirus program to look for adware, but it’s better to get one that recognizes PUPs (potentially unwanted programs – a mild form of malware). Spyhunter for PC or Combo Cleaner for Mac could fit, as they identify such programs quite well. You should also check browser extensions for Chrome, IE, and Firefox.

Uninstalling WeatherBlink from your browser might not restore your old settings, like your search provider, so you will have to do it manually by yourself. Depending on the browser you are using, follow the instructions below:
