WebBooster is a browser hijacker that can affect Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome. The program adds a toolbar to your browser that has several features, such as quick links to your email, Youtube and some instant messaging programs, like Yahoo Messenger, Google Talk, etc. The toolbar is added without a user’s authorization and most of the users don’t find these changes very pleasant. Moreover, WebBooster usually changes your homepage and search engine to search.iminent.com.
This search tool advertises tons of sponsored websites. If you make a search using it, you will see that despite of your search keywords, you will be provided with the same sponsored pages in your search results. Beware that some of these websites can be compromised and if you click on them you can even get your system infected. Others are most likely related to the third parties where you can be convinced to purchase something. WebBooster may also use browser cookies and track your browsing history. This information can be shared with other third parties and they can use it to generate personalized ads as well as involve you into other marketing related projects.
If your homepage or search provider was replaced with search.iminent.com or you have noticed other signs of WebBooster presence in your system, you should get rid of it immediately. At first, go to Control Panel, Add/Remove programs list and uninstall anything related to WebBooster or Iminent from there. Some versions of this hijacker install software that blocks browser settings from changing. To identify them, scanning with Spyhunter or other reputable antispyware tool might be useful. Then you can uninstall the extensions and reset settings in your browsers.
