How to remove WebRadioSearch
Remove malicious software
To get rid of Webradiosearch.com search redirects, open your web browser and remove the WebRadioSearch extension, as well as other unwanted extensions. This will stop the redirects to Yahoo.
To remove all malware, review your most recently installed apps and programs, as well as your browser extensions. Delete those items that are suspicious in any way. To check your apps, use an anti-malware tool, like Spyhunter for Windows, Combo Cleaner for macOS, and others.
Stop notification spam
Even after removing the WebRadioSearch browser extension, it might still show pop-ups on your screen. To stop this, open your web browser and manage your notification settings:
- Chrome – open Settings, scroll down to Site settings (under Privacy and security), click on Notifications.
- Edge (Chromium) – open Settings, click Site Permissions, Notifications.
- Firefox – open Settings, Privacy & Security, scroll down to Permissions, and click on Settings next to Notifications.
- Safari – in the Safari menu, choose Preferences, Websites, Notifications.
If Webradiosearch.com or other unwanted sites have permission to send notifications to your browser, this enabled them to show pop-up messages on your screen. Luckily, you can revoke this permission in the notification settings page.
You can also block unwanted notifications by clicking the Settings button on a pop-up message. You’ll get the option to block all notifications from the site, like this:
What is WebRadioSearch?
Browser hijacker
WebRadioSearch is a browser extension. It gets installed on a web browser and it only affects that specific web browser.
Once installed, WebRadioSearch replaces the default search engine with Feed.webradiosearch.com, a site that opens Yahoo.com. This is not a very noticeable change at first, because your browser hardly looks any different. Maybe your home page doesn’t have the search box that it used to have. But the changes that WebRadioSearch makes are significant:
- Yahoo.com delivers search results, even if you weren’t using it as your internet search engine,
- pop-ups from Webradiosearch.com may appear on your screen,
- WebRadioSearch collects information on your online activities.
By the way, unlike its name implies, WebRadioSearch does not offer any features that have anything to do with web radio. It doesn’t seem to have any useful features at all, in fact. It’s pure adware.
Installed without permission
So, how does such a useless browser get installed? You probably didn’t install WebRadioSearch intentionally, so how did it appear on your device?
One way that browser hijackers get installed is by being bundled with free programs. Thanks to tools like InstallCore, programs include other software in their installers – and you might not even notice those optional offers, as they’re often hidden behind custom or advanced installation settings.
Also, WebRadioSearch is advertised online, but it’s advertised in ways that can lead to unintentional installation. For example, it may use ads that are designed to look like software updates or download pages. You can look at Edgeupdate.xyz to see an example.
These types of deceptive ads lead to people agreeing to install malicious browser extensions without realizing it. They tend to show up on pirating sites, for example, free movie and sports streaming sites.
In addition, WebRadioSearch asks users to allow it to send notifications. If you do, it gets permission to send notification alerts to your browser.
All of this can be used to display ads and promote other browser hijackers. Overall, this can make your browser a bit difficult to use. Search redirects, new tabs opening on their own, notification spam can all be very distracting and make the browser difficult to use. It’s recommended to remove WebRadioSearch.
