WinSpeeder is described as a useful tool that would help you to monitor and block various malware and unwanted applications. However, WinSpeeder is listed as an adware and a PUP (potentially unwanted program) itself, because it won’t provide you with services mentioned above and instead display annoying advertisements right on your web browsers. It works as a browser add-on, that can be added to all most popular web browsers, such as Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer. Once installed, it will display various advertisements on your web browsers. Those advertisements can be shown as pop-up, pop-under, in-text or banner ads. A new tab or even a window on your web browser can be opened as well. They usually appear on e-commerce websites, such as eBay and Amazon and offer you to purchase some particular goods at an appealing price rate. However, even though those ads look really attractive, you should not click on any of them. WinSpeeder is supported by various advertisers. They pay WinSpeeder for the opportunity to advertise on their advertising network. This means if you click on one of those ads, you will be immediately redirected to some third parties websites. And it’s not a secret that those third parties often happen to be various cyber criminals, such as hacker or scammers. So if you click on one of those ads and find yourself taken to the third party website, your computer can get infected with another malware or you can even get scammed in case you attempt to purchase something there. Those ads are not only disturbing and annoying, they are malicious as well.
Another unwanted attribute of WinSpeeder is data collection. Pay a visit to their official website at http://winspeeder.info and look at their Privacy Policy:
Data Collection
i. We may collect certain information about your web usage and websites you have visited, which may be shared with third parties and used for advertising. NOTE: THE PLUGIN AND OTHER SERVICES COLLECT AND STORES INFORMATION CONCERNING THE WEB PAGES YOU VISIT AND YOUR ACTIVITY ON THOSE PAGES, SUCH AS IMPRESSIONS, CLICKS AND SEARCH TERMS. IN SOME CASES, INFORMATION COLLECTED BY THE PLUGIN AND OTHER SERVICES MAY BE PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE, AND IN SOME CASES INFORMATION (INCLUDING INFORMATION FROM OR ABOUT PAGES OF SOCIAL MEDIA WEBSITES YOU VISIT) MAY BE USED OR SHARED WITH THIRD PARTIES FOR PURPOSES OF DISPLAYING TARGETED ADVERTISEMENTS PROMOTIONAL AND MARKETING MATERIAL TO YOU.
Data Usage
Information we collect from you may be used in any of the following ways:
i. To personalize your experience (your information helps us to better respond to your individual needs).
ii. To improve our Plugin and other Services (we continually strive to improve our application offerings based on the information and feedback we receive from you).
iii. To improve customer service (your information helps us to more effectively respond to your customer service requests and support your needs).
iv. To process transactions.
v. To administer a contest, promotion, survey or other Site features.
vi. To send periodic emails (the email address you provide for order processing, may be used to send you information and updates pertaining to your order, in addition to receiving occasional company news, updates, related product or service information, etc.).
This means that your private information, such as browsing history, search queries, top visited websites, your IP and email addresses or even your geographic location will be collected and used for marketing purposes. Third parties adjust their ads according to the given data, make them more relevant and interesting to you this way, so the chances that you click on one of those ads rise. And that’s the main goal of WinSpeeder – they get paid for generating web traffic and collecting sales leads. As you can see, WinSpeeder is not a really dangerous virus but it can lead you to some more severe consequences, therefore it needs to be removed as soon as possible. It is not difficult to indicate if your computer is infected with this adware – all ads displayed by WinSpeeder are labeled with a slogan “ads by WinSpeeder” or “brought to you by WinSpeeder”.
It might be that you don’t remember installing this application. It’s because it is travelling bundled with other freeware and gets installed without you even being aware of it. So to avoid getting infected, you should avoid downloading software from websites with a questionable reputation. However, if you don’t have any other option, be really attentive during the installation. Opt out for a custom or advanced install mode and do not skip any steps (don’t just click “next” and “agree” buttons all the time). Look for various check boxes that can be already selected for you. Some of the most important information can be displayed in the tiniest font, so beware. If you see that some additional software that you are not aware of is being installed alongside – do not allow it to be completed, as it possibly can be WinSpeeder or any other malware. In case it is too late and your computer is already infected, we recommend you to use a reliable anti-malware software to solve this problem. Download Spyhunter, StopZilla or Malwarebytes and scan your computer with it. It will detect and remove the threat automatically. If for some reasons you don’t want to download any additional software, you can remove it manually as well. Simply follow our step-by-step WinSpeeder removal guide given below.
