Xbits Speedup Pro - How to remove

Xbits Speedup Pro is a Windows utility, an optimizer and a registry cleaner that helps speed up your PC – or at least it wants you to think so. This application shows false positives and misleading scan results to convince you that your computer needs repairs. Like many fake optimizers, Xbits Speedup Pro performs scans of your computer and shows that it found problems to encourage you to buy the paid version.

Many real antivirus programs flag applications like this, as shown by this VirusTotal page. This is Xbits Speedup Pro’s installer downloaded from one of the many clone websites that distribute Xbits Speedup Pro.

About Xbits Speedup Pro

In reality, Xbits Speedup Pro itself isn’t that dangerous. But neither is it useful. Programs like this one do the same things that the Windows operating system can do by itself, such as:

  • Startup management
  • Deleting unnecessary items
  • Uninstalling applications and removing related files
  • Changing performance-related settings

Overall, Xbits Speedup Pro is junkware that nobody should pay for:

Xbits Speedup Pro does offer to fix the registry  – but that is generally a bad sign. Sure, sometimes you need to modify the registry for specific functions to work correctly. Other times, malware or poorly-programmed applications leave a mess in the registry that causes problems later. Some programs are able to clean the registry effectively and safely, but wrong changes can brick your computer (which is why Microsoft doesn’t support registry cleaners), so it’s a big responsibility that only well-regarded programs should be trusted with. But unless you’re experiencing real issues, it’s safest to just leave your registry alone – it’s so small, any “optimization” won’t have an effect on your PC’s performance.

Since Xbits Speedup Pro’s creators don’t seem to have evolved their program over the years they’ve been around, you can’t expect good quality registry repair from this application. If Xbits Speedup Pro displays issues with your registry, you can’t be sure that they’re real. Then, during the repairs, some fake optimizers do not make any changes and just stop displaying errors, others try to fix things and accidentally delete important settings.

Overall, Xbits Speedup Pro is extremely limited and it is ridiculous that people are being charged for this application. And yet, this business model must be lucrative since the fake optimizer isn’t new. The name is new, but there are many versions of this program already: IObyte System Care, Universal PC Care, Xtron System Care, Adroit System Care, Full PC Care 2.0, and many others.

How Xbits Speedup Pro gets installed

No doubt, some people just look for an application to help their PC run faster and naturally find Xbits Speedup Pro and believe that it’s worth trying out. It’s very important to look up the program and its developers before installing it. If you can’t find any info on that program, it might be new, or it might be a clone like Xbits Speedup Pro, an old program released under a new name to escape its bad reputation. Additionally, it’s important to scan any setup file before running it (and remember to update your antivirus program often!).

Ads are also used to spread this and similar applications. And not all ads are safe and honest – take a look at this article for an example of how ads are used to spread the Mac version of Xbits Speedup Pro. In short, fake virus alerts are shown and a fake scan is performed – all on a specially crafted website. The scan results show that your computer is totally infected and that you have to download the offered application (which turns out to be a fake optimizer) to fix your issues. Then, when Xbits Speedup Pro tells you that fixing things costs 19.95, you might feel compelled to pay that to rescue your computer. This sort of scam is a big danger and spreads thanks to adware viruses, shady websites that work with malicious advertisers, and can even infect legitimate ad-networks once-in-a-while.

You can remove adware, as well as Xbits Speedup Pro, using a real antivirus program, like SpyHunter, but if your computer is free of malware, you should be able to simply uninstall Xbits Speedup Pro manually. You might need to end its process first.
