Yellow Search is a browser add-on. It promises to improve your search results, however, it doesn’t do more than replace your default search engine and collect data on your browsing habits.
When Yellow Search is installed, it sets Yellow-search.com as your default search engine. Then, every time you search the web, your query goes to Yellow-search.com.
Although Yellow-search.com’s marketing shows what looks like a custom search engine, it normally forwards search queries to Bing.com.

What is Yellow Search?
Yellow Search takes over your default search engine
Yellow Search is a browser add-on. It offers to replace your default search engine with its own, one that will help you find results based on your country and language. But mainstream search engines like Google already base your results on your location and language, so that’s hardly a novel feature.
So, when you install Yellow Search, it makes Yellow-search.com your default search engine. That’s really it.
Yellow Search makes it so that your web search results are delivered by Bing. It does not make Bing.com your default search engine, though. It just makes Yellow-search.com your default search engine and then allows Yellow-search.com to decide what results you will see.
Other sites that Yellow-search.com may make you visit include Zapmeta.com, Kensaq.com, Top10answers.com, Seekweb.com, etc.
Why do people install Yellow Search?
In May, Yellow-search.com was estimated to get around a million monthly visits by the web analytics site Similarweb.com, so it seems to be quite popular – despite its utter lack of any helpful features.
By the way, there’s something strange about Yellow Search’s reviews on the Chrome Web Store:
- Most of the reviews are very short – phrases like “Love it”, “This is awesome!”, and “very cute”.
- Some of the reviews are longer, but they discuss features that the Yellow Search extension does not even have, such as timers, sound effects, wallpapers, notes, discounts, etc.
- All the reviews give Yellow Search four or five stars – not even the best extensions have such universally positive reception.
I don’t know if Yellow Search’s reviews are fake, but they kind of look fake. This is not necessarily the fault of Yellow Search’s developers, but it does not inspire trust. It could mean that there’s something iffy about how people install Yellow Search. I wouldn’t be surprised if there’re some deceptive installation tactics employed to get people to install Yellow Search.
It tracks your data
Based on Yellow-search.com’s privacy policy, it appears that Yellow Search is related to yellowHEAD, an online marketing company. That’s not surprising, as the main function of Yellow Search and similar browser extensions is to show ads, direct traffic to certain websites, and collect data.
Browser extensions are good at these things, much better than websites. This is because extensions can ask to see your browsing history, open and close browser tabs, and even control some browser settings. Websites can’t do these things.
According to Yellow-search.com’s privacy policy, this site/extension collects data on what ads its users see and how they interact with those ads. When you have Yellow Search installed, it watches how you interact with certain content online. This helps Yellow-search.com’s owners deliver better services to advertisers.
Yellow Search can collect data such as your IP address, location, your advertising identifiers, and data about your devices. Surprisingly, the privacy policy doesn’t talk about search history, even though it could log it if it wanted to.
How to remove Yellow Search
To stop the redirects and data tracking done by Yellow-search.com, you only need to uninstall the Yellow Search extension.
Then, look at the default search engine settings in your browser. Change the settings if you want. You can set any search engine you like as the default.
If you experience problems with ads and redirects, then check what other extensions you have installed on your browser. See what programs are installed on your computer. You might use the help of anti-malware tools, such as Spyhunter for Windows, Spyhunter for Mac, Malwarebytes, and others. They can help you find malicious and potentially unwanted items and remove them.
