The YTDownloader Virus - How to remove

The YTDownloader virus (also referred as the YouTube Downloader virus) is a free software that is sponsored by advertising and comes bundled with third party applications, such as Tuvaro. Although the program enables you to download YouTube videos from any video site, convert them to MP3 and watch them from anywhere, it also causes such changes as displaying of advertisements while browsing the Internet, changing of your default search engine, home page and new tab page with those promoted by it. This is what its Terms of Use state:

The Software is free to use and sponsored by advertising. The use of the Software may cause additional ads to appear when browsing certain websites. These may include, price comparison ads, coupons, pop-unders/ups, banner, inline text or transitional ads, etc… The Company is not affiliated with or responsible for any third party websites, products, services or offers promoted in any advertisements or links made available through the Services

It means that you will not only be flooded with pop-up and in-text ads, interrupted by redirections to unknown websites and your search results will be altered by mixing advertised links among those relevant to your search but also that the YTDownloader does not take any responsibility for the content it displays. You might accidentally click on a malicious add or corrupted links presented by the YTDownloader virus and get your computer infected with malware.

It is strongly recommended to remove this application and anything related to it as soon as possible. Please note, although you can remove it manually, you should consider such an option only if you are computer literate enough not to damage the system by deleting useful files. Browser hijackers/adware and other unwanted applications are programmed to be resistant to removal. Such tricks as hiding files or renaming are often used.

The YTDownloader Virus Removal Instructions:

1. Scan your computer using antimalware program that removes adware and browser hijackers. We recommend using Spyhunter.
2. Go to Control Panel -> Add and Remove Programs -> Check if there are any unfamiliar applications related to the YTDownloader virus. If you see any, remove them. It is also recommended to remove any other applications installed on the same day.
3. Remove the toolbar from all of Internet browsers:
   • For Internet Explorer: Go to “Tools” (or gear icon in Internet Explorer 9), -> “Manage Add-ons”. Look for the YTDownloader virus and disable it.
   • For Google Chrome: Click on the wrench or bars icon on the top right of the screen; go to “Tools”-> “Extensions”. If you see any extensions related to the YTDownloader virus, click on a trash can icon next to them.
   • For Mozilla Firefox: Go to “Tools” -> “Add-ons” -> “Extensions”. If you see any extensions related to the YTDownloader virus, disable them.
4. Check if your home page and default search engine are changed to the one you always used. If you see any unfamiliar address, replace it with your own, e.g. google.com.
