ZoomifyApp, or Zoomify, is the name of an application that’s supposed to make it easier for you to view larger versions of small images. However, after installing this application, you might notice ads that look unusual and have the “Ads by Zoomify” label. This is only one of a few signs that Zoomify is a potentially unsafe program.

The setup file of ZoomifyApp is detected as dangerous by many professional antivirus tools — there is no way these are false positives. Zoomify is consciously considered to be malware by many cybersecurity experts for the ad-pushing behavior, for the way it sneaks into people’s devices stealthily, and for its irresponsible use of its powers to profit from the users.
The web is full of malware that’s made to profit from users by showing them unwanted ads. Zoomify is very similar to a few other adware apps, such as Webzoom, ZoomEx, and FBPhotoZoom. These also arrive in bundles and take over the browser to show endless annoying ads.
What does Zoomify do?
Applications that interact with your web browser (Chrome, Safari, Internet Explorer, etc.) usually have access to the content that is displayed to you. If they can change that content, they are able to read it — all of it. For example, Zoomify needs to scan the webpages that you see to find thumbnails to enlarge. This is required for powerful browser plugins, but it also means that you should be able to trust the developer of this program to not read your private information and not change the websites by, for example, injecting ads.
Zoomify is considered to be adware because it uses its powers to place ads on various webpages. The ads by Zoomify are obnoxious, intrusive, shown on top of the content that you might be trying to view and injected into text with no regard for your comfort. When we’re so used to ignoring ads, it’s distracting to have to close every Zoomify ad manually, but it’s unavoidable while this application is allowed to interfere with your browser. It’s beneficial for Zoomify that it can see your browsing activities because that data is valuable to advertisers who use the adware extension to advertise to you.
Not everyone installs Zoomify voluntarily. This app is included as an “optional” install together with other programs. Bundles of a wanted program which is serving as bait and the promoted products that are attached to it are spread by dishonest distributors. The moment you try to download software off of a freeware site, you risk installing all sorts of unwanted programs on your computer, some even worse than Zoomify.
How to avoid downloading adware
Programs like ZoomifyApp are mostly bundled by dishonest distributors, but you can usually find your favorite software on the home page of its creators who don’t always bundle the installation with bloatware. Even then it’s important to scan every setup page and review your list of installed applications after the installation. Don’t allow malicious programs to remain installed in your machine. Just because they aren’t very visible does not mean that they’re not active.
ZoomifyApp has an attractive home page that talked a lot about its good features but almost nothing about ads. It’s understandable why anyone would be interested in the program when they aren’t warned about the cost of using Zoomify. When installing programs, pay attention to changes and their timing. Remove recent programs one-by-one to troubleshoot recent problems.
Always scan executable files before running them. Make sure that you know which files are executable by displaying file types or extensions. Honestly, with so many antivirus programs detecting Zoomify as malicious, if your usual antivirus tool hasn’t, then there is something wrong with its settings, updates, or the antivirus program isn’t powerful enough. If you had Zoomify installed, there is a risk that you have more potentially dangerous programs on your computer.
How to stop ads by Zoomify
If Zoomify can be uninstalled manually, you should be able to do that manually. However, I advise you to scan your mchine with an antivirus program or two since other malicious applications use the same distribution methods as Zoomify. Spyhunter, or any professional program would be able to find most malware.
Review the extensions that you have installed on your browsers, if any. Since they have so much power over your data and the way that webpages are displayed to you, consider whether you are comfortable with them being there.
